Walts Drive Away (you to the poor house)

Hey let's face it, when we are out there we are on our own. No matter how good the company is; it's all on your shoulders, they will blame you if it comes down to it. We have to look out for ourselves.

 

That's why I have a camera. If someone slams on their brakes after swooping in front of you for no reason other than to claim insurance. (I've seen it done) That video will not only save your job but will put the other party in jail.

 

A friend of mine asked a 4 wheeler once why she cut that truck off. Her reply..."he has 18 brakes he can stop faster than I can". And it is our tax dollars that pay for drivers ed to teach this kind of thinking!!

 

Ever heard of that hardworkman ????? Sounds to me like you were not paying close enough attention!!!! Probably on the cell phone,,,going to fast,,,did the company's insurance have to pay for your accident??? If so,,do you tihnk for one minute that insurance campanies roll over and pay for claims. I guarantee you after a compete investigation of your accident,,,if the insurance paid out on your claim,,,,,you were at fault. And that IDIOT safety guy has a very true statement in saying "all rear end collisions are the fault of the rear ender" (you). I would go as far to say that your million mile of safe driving is probably more like 500 miles. You sound awfully careless my friend. . I say you should find another occupation,,,,... I knew of a guy that was riding one of those and fell off and his foot got caught stirrup and he about got drug to death before the store manager was able to unplug the ride. Ok Hardworkonman,,,,hang in there man,,,everything always get better......just like my pappy used to say "it ain't pooh do until the cat ##### in your shoe"" remember that !!!!!!!!!!

 

True. What kind of setup do you have and how much did it cost? Do you have a screen on the dash where you can watch the blindspot or just a camera that records? I'm interested in this for my truck. The company I'm with wants me to put a mirrior on the right fender and I'm not too keen on drilling a hole in the hood.

 

A very small SD card camera secured to the dash. No screen. The camera basically sees what I do. It records non-stop, plugs into the 12v cig lighter and loops once the memory is full. Costs about $140 give or take depending on which model ou use. Google stuntcams to find it. If something happens you can plug the SD card into your laptop to review the video and it's to small to be noticed right away by someone just looking up in the cab.

 

This happened to me, and WAS deemed non/preventable. On the waiver the officer wrote "Ambulance chaser / insurance job" and then signed it, told me that anybody that had any questions about the incodent from my company should call him and he would explain to them that the woman had several priors for attempting the same thing on several different occasions.

She pulled in front of me during traffic almost on an angle in front of me in my lane and sat there just as i started to roll forward, i barely budged her. The cop laughed in her face and explained in detail what SHE did wrong, and asked ME if i wanted a police report. Nothing ever got said about it other than that, he told her he was not writing a police report for her actions and that if she insisted on him doing so SHE would be getting the ticket, later he told me why he made that descision, and about her driving record. It was some non english speaking lady who also got smart with the cop when he tried to explain to her what the deal was, it was actually quite funny.

On another occasion, this kid in chicago tried to beat me to the end of his ramp (Without even so much as having a mirror on his drivers side) needless to say, he diddn't make it. I was hauling black iron pipe at the time and wasn't slamming on my brakes, I was able to slow down to roughly 10MPH before we accually collided, but i wasn't even going to attempt coming to a complete stop, this was also non preventable, and i never heard a word about it. The safety department was laughing while i had them on the phone at this stupid kid and the things he was saying to me, me and the officer politely explained to him what it takes the maneuver a big truck, and how his selfishness (If i hadnt been as smart as i was) (This is coming from the cop) could've caused a bunch of innocent people their lives, or at the very least severe injury (if i had tried to slam on my brakes or avoid him by putting other people in harms way because of his actions that would've just been stupid)

Last but not least i was travelling really early in the morning on a long open stretch of interestate pulling a quad axle with 100,000LB's of lumber and misc goods on the deck, i was rolling down a small incline when the only other vehicle on the road besides me that was travelling in the left lane suddenly desides she wants to be in the right lane while completely ignoring the fact that there was a big truck in that right lane getting ready to pass her she literally jerked the wheel and ended up directly in front of me.. Yes, you can guess what happened next. I pulled over, they pulled over, the gentelmen passenger was nice enough to get out of the truck and beg me not to call 911 because "Hey, we're all ok!" Right dude, my steer is blown and i'm missing half my hood, and i'm just going to go on my way and lie to my company? No thanks. During my conversation with the dispatcher i looked over and saw that they were leaving the scene, i smelled alchohol on the guys breath and was 99% sure that's why they had booked it. The guy from the T/A came out to change my tire and i was still upset so i was venting to him about what had happened, told him they drove off on a flat tired and he went ahead and looked for them, he found the truck at a motel on the next exit parked in the back, we both called the police, and yes, the passenger AND the driver were both over the legal limit.

This was also non preventable. Sometimes it doesn't matter how good you're paying attention, or how far ahead you plan.. You simply can't avoid someone that doesn't want to be avoided, nor do i care to. I'm not losing MY life over some ######## chasing a lawsuit, or just generally being a #######, period.

As of now, nothing from any of these incodents is on my DAC.

 

Tom in Saftey only relies on what the DOT says. Donnie boy wants the claim settled quick. Their trucks are constantly being stopped by DOT, and the company never backs the driver up, I know I worked their and quit because of it. And as far as a safety bonus, if you get a warning, and no ticket, you still lose you bonus, what a crappy way of doing business. Right Donnie boy?

 

Constantly stopped by the DOT ? Safer says they have 115 power units that have been inspected 340 times in the last 24 months . That's pretty close to 1 inspection per year per truck . Their driver OOS is 3.2% , less than half the national average of 6.6% . Their truck OOS is 19.7% , less than the nationl average of 22.27% .

 

Is it legal to have that camera on your dash in Georgia ???? You might want to check into it.
