The hook on it wont fit on the rub rail correctly so i did it that way... i agree though. you are right. I dont have a thing to hook on on that side under the trailer. and the hook rubs the strap the other way.

I hook them to the rub rail sometimes, but I always wrap them around so the strap tightens around the hook.

A few more words and phrases to learn.
Stop it before it starts;
This is an important concept. The idea is sort of simple. Place various securements in such a way as the cargo can’t start to move. Bulkheads, cross or X chains are just a few things.
Strap or Trap;
The concept of keeping things in place. Sometimes you may come upon a load that certain components can’t be directly secured. This may be a trap situation. Where securement placed on and around other components “Traps” it in place.kylefitzy, God prefers Diesels, cke and 4 others Thank this. -
Further complicating things, as he says, no matter which way you wrap the hook on the rub rail (and yes it IS rated for it), the hook will dig into the strap pretty bad and if theres any movement, it'll start eating the strap. Further than that, even if you beat the hook closed more, the rail isnt tall enough to have the hook sit in a way that looks right
There are really only a few fixes for this as i remember it
1. Use the j track and a grab point
2. Use a chain end on the ratchet
3. Beat/use a vise to ensmallerate the hook end closed a bit, then hook as shown in picture (this is not a reitenour, hook will still look funky which is what im simulating by holding with my hand, finger is total height of rail. but it wont go anywhere)God prefers Diesels, cke, catchall1234 and 2 others Thank this. -
I personally dont like to hook to the rub rail. For me, I almost always have 45-48k on the deck and usually 30-50k worth of securement holding it.
Those welds on that rub rail aint holding that kind of weight if a trailer goes over. Thats why I always secure to the underside of my trailer. If something happens, it's gonna be the straps that break 1st.God prefers Diesels, cke, catchall1234 and 1 other person Thank this. -
From memory rubrail is good to 5k on a reitenour, pockets are welded on the back side and good to 5500, j track is good to 6500 double spools are 6500 and single spool is 5000
And bolted strap bar is 5500 or 6000God prefers Diesels, cke, catchall1234 and 1 other person Thank this. -
