We had a guy quit by sending a text. No notice at all. If you want to do that to a mega fleet that employs thousands of drivers, and recruits straight out of school so be it, but doing that at a smaller fleet that employs 30 or so commercial drivers really kind of sucks. It not only hurts my employer, the drivers that remain have to double down and pickup the leftover pieces. Would my boss be able to replace him in two weeks? Probably not, but it would at least give him a heads up and a head start. He also did this the very day our dispatcher was in the hospital with her stepfather who was having open heart surgery. We all knew she would be unavailable today and yet he sent the text on that very day.
I think this is a jerk move, I almost feel sorry for my boss who is already stretched with drivers, as many companies are already
Quitting without a notice is a poor move

And how much of a notice will your boss give if he decides to fire someone?
This is exactly the same, but the employee is firing the employer.Aamcotrans, scottied67, Mattmanstroked and 40 others Thank this. -
Honestly my boss only fires in extreme circumstances. Those who do get fired here bring it upon themselves. If your otherwise a good employee and make a mistake you will still have a job here

I quit Welfare Express with no notice. I figured that if I did put in prior notification of my intent to quit that I would be kept busy running painful circular loads that never got close to the terminal.
We can't know what your boy Elroy was thinking, but it must've been purty urgent. At least as far as he was concerned.austinmike, Lumper Humper, rachi and 6 others Thank this. -
If one side is moral to end the relationship with no notice, why is it not moral for the other party to do the same?Aamcotrans, Flat Earth Trucker, Rctruck87 and 14 others Thank this. -
I guess I woke up cranky this morning. So here goes. There is NO RIGHT OR WRONG way to end an employer/employee relationship. What driver A chooses to do is not up to driver B to 2nd guess. Yes, a small carrier you should have a discussion with the boss about your coming plans, but that's just me. I have worked for people that ran a toxic workplace and those folks I had no respect for. The bottom line here is the circumstances why somebody quit under is nobody elses business! PERIOD!

All this shows, is how spineless people have become, they want no face to face interaction, and this virus bull plop only made the issue worse. Many hide behind these stupid masks. I've had many jobs, and I don't ever recall just leaving with no notice. I was always a "man" and looked them straight in the eye, and told them what I thought of their company, and while I never gave 2 weeks, a week was good enough, I felt. Must be tough these days for a company, one disappointment after another. I wouldn't do it, that's for sure.

I’ve never had employees so I may be way off track here, but once a guy decides to quit it seems like it’s best for the company as a whole if they just get going fairly soon. Too often they go around spreading rumors and gossip about the boss and everyone else for weeks or months before they quit and end up getting half the crew disillusioned with the job.
We had a guy doing that where I work. I think about all of us were ready to quit until he left. After that it went fine again and we all got along much better.nredfor88, Lumper Humper, JoeyJunk and 6 others Thank this. -
What's good for the goose is good for the gander. You fire me, I fire you.
