Stolen MC#

Definitely file a police report. Find out all the details you can. Where was the load picked up? Did the location in where it was picked up have cameras? Police can request the video footage and conduct their investigation. If they have a plate number, they will put out an APB to be on the lookout for the POS that did this.

Make sure you document everything. Including phone calls to police and insurance.

The shipper doesn’t get the drivers info?
Name or a copy of their DL?

ive been to places that took a picture of the driver, cargo and truck .

 

Can't contact the shipper directly and see if they have any documentation or security camera footage of the truck?

 

When I was managing a tour bus company I had an employee "use" our MC and DOT number for his own personal thing, called the DOT to report it, and they could care less.

I even caught him one time in the bus took pictures of it with his passengers, blocked him in so he couldnt leave called the police and they almost arrested me because apparently you cant prevent someone from leaving, I finally caught him stealing fuel using our cards, all truck stops film fuel purchases, which I did not know. Pilot and TA pulled up the video. Got him for a third degree felony theft.

 

I bet they are using a stolen truck with stolen license plates too.

about 25 years ago I was bobtailing in Atlanta and got rear ended hard, by another 18 wheeler.
Turns out he had a suspended CDL, (which the cops on scene didn’t call in )
And was driving a stolen truck with stolen plates.
They had legitimately rented a trailer though.
but when I figured it out , the cops didn’t care at all. the only cops that cared were the ones in the NJ town where the truck was stolen from , the detective said they had many trucks stolen from their town and this was the only one that ever turned up again anywhere . And this truck and the driver slipped away.

I guess if you’re not paying for a truck or insurance or fuel, you can make a lot of money trucking .

You need to figure out a way to put an alert on the number . And if they use it again to pick up a load, you should try to arrange to meet them at the pickup or delivery .
The local cops won’t care about the MC number, but the local Diesel bear might .

the local cops will care if the truck they are driving is stolen.

I find it puzzling that you folks have to display your number on the truck. Probably makes it really easy for someone to use it. No digging online required.

 

Reminds me when I used to be a Sheriff inside the Cuyahoga county jail....we HAD to wear our last names on our ID's.....like here ya go bad guy track me down when you get out!

I don't even know how they find people to be in law enforcement at this point.

 

Hard to use your numbers on the truck, plate/registration won't show you as the safety carrier. You don't have to worry about any claim coming to you, broker didn't do their due diligence by sending to an e-mail not connected to you or verifying the phone number on file with FMCSA. This kind of thing happens all the time.

 

I've considered becoming an officer a few times but its really not a respected profession anymore. A lot brought it on themselves mind you.
