I delivered to a Walmart DC yesterday morning. Something new I noticed that I had not seen them do before was they had me stop a few feet before the guard shack, and a guy with a digital camera came out and took pictures of my numbers, and both trailer and tractor license plates. After reading this thread, I guess I now know why they've started doing that.

Well the real thing of it is that all of your information is public information that anyone can get.

If you want to use an MC number all you have to do is go on the FMCSA website and pick out of the hundreds of thousands of numbers that you see.

@Dino soar I can't see how it can affect your insurance since you are 0% liable for that.
If they - shipper & broker- file a claim against your policy, your insurance should instantaneously reject it. If there is anyone to blame, it is the shipper and the broker. They are the ones who proved to be sloppy. As a matter of fact, you should be mad at them for letting some crooks use your credentials.
Both the shipper and the broker should have had some measures to prevent it. For instance, should have verified the driver's name, also the phone and email that's on SAFER. You could sue them, not the other way...
My goodness, what a dirty business....and all of us independents here can experience the same.

I logged in to check my FMSCA stuff and all is well.....I'll be doing that more often now!

Not that anyone will care even if I catch something! And even if they care it sounds like nothing can be done!

I briefly considered that in high school but quickly lost that thought. My uncle just retired from 20 years on the force. He's only in his mid 40s. Worked his way up to a doctorate degree and teaches at Rutgers University

The entire way they handle the Open book of info at FMCSA is baffling. I mean anyone can look you up, get your phone and address etc.

I’m sure it won’t affect you in any way but it sure sucks

Why is it baffling, this isn’t private information. The system isn’t and shouldn’t have anonymity. This is business, not personal info

I keep telling you guys, when you get an authority, get another email address and another phone just for that authority.

    But who listens to me?

You've obviously never been in any of the "They want a copy of my driver's licence..." threads. ;)

And for the record, no, they can't have a copy of mine, but I'll let them look at the picture to see it's me.

Yup, your right... Bobby Mustafa from Nigeria needs to know our home address so he can offer better factoring and/or dispatch service. Lol

The email and phone number no issues. Most of us have those I am sure (not that that would keep a broker from giving a load away using your MC number) The home address since you can’t list a PO Box should have a bit more security. The price of doing biz out of home I reckon.

77fib77 and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
