You can not drive after being on duty 14 hours. You can still log line 4. Does not mean 14 hours and you go to bed.

You have a lot to learn, get caught working past your 14, then lets talk, just remember as a driver if you are involved in an incident any and all activity will be scrutinized in a court of law, so work all you want.

DRIVE AND WORK/ON DUTY ARE BOTH KEYS TO THE RULES!..

I just love it when truck drivers try to "outsmart" each other. Why don't you all help each other instead of laughing and pointing fingers like your were back in 8th grade........And then you wonder why nobody takes us drivers seriously.

Maybe what everyone is not understanding is your intention after being on duty for however long you want to be? Are you saying you can be on duty without then having a 10 in the sleeper? Using the on duty as your 10? That might help clear some things up. You do realize being on duty before/after driving still burns your clock right?

You can't use line 4 as your 10. Your 10 hr break must be on line 1 or 2 or a combination of the two if you are staying in your truck you must show at least 8 hrs sleeper berth. You can work all you want past your 14 but you will have to take a 10 hr break before driving again. I agree with NoTarps the rookie understands the rules correctly.

    walleye and notarps4me Thank this.

What is there too outsmart? Most of the time a student or rookie is spouting off at the veteran drivers that know what they are talking about. In this case I am taking up for the student who is correct. The veteran driver of 37 years is cracking on the rookie who this time the veteran is wrong about the HOS and the student is right. You just can't please you new guys. You correct a newbie and the new guys get offended. You take up for a newbie and agree with one that is right and you new guys get defensive... move it on down the road driver...

He posted the above quote. I think he is quite clear on what the regs are and understands them.
I think the problem is that some drivers think once you hit the 14 you can't log line 4 at all.
