All the new drivers should save their $$$$$$, move to Humbolt County and build a grow room instead of driving. Multi-billion dollar industry.

I would rather deal with stoners then drunks any day and some folks are just addicts period wether it be pot ,booze or cookies etc might as well be the less harmful one

Smoking marijuana is becoming even more popular among U.S. teens and they have cut down on smoking cigarettes, binge drinking and using methamphetamine, according to a federal survey released Monday.
More teens also are getting high on prescription pain pills and attention-deficit drugs, according to eighth, 10th and 12th graders surveyed by the University of Michigan for the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
The increase of teens smoking pot is partly because the national debate over medical use of marijuana can make the drug's use seem safer to teenagers, researchers said. In addition to marijuana, fewer teens also view prescription drugs and Ecstasy as dangerous, which often means more could use those drugs in the future, said White House drug czar Gil Kerlikowske.
The "continued erosion in youth attitudes and behavior toward substance abuse should give pause to all parents and policy-makers," Kerlikowske said.

TRENTON, N.J. -- New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine signed legislation granting chronically ill patients legal access to marijuana on Monday, one of dozens of bills inked by the governor on his last full day in office.
The governor signed the bill after hours Monday, making New Jersey the 14th state to allow patients with diseases such as cancer, AIDS, glaucoma and multiple sclerosis to use marijuana to alleviate their pain, nausea and other symptoms.
"New Jersey will soon no longer make criminals out of our very sick and terminally ill," said Assembly co-sponsor Reed Gusciora.
The legislation allows for dispensaries to be set up around the state where patients with prescriptions can access the drug. The state Health Department will license and monitor the dispensaries.
Growing marijuana at home and driving after using the drug remain illegal under the new law.
Gusciora, a Democrat, said New Jersey's medical marijuana law is the strictest in the country and will serve as a model for other states

MIAMI In her 88 years, Florence Siegel has learned how to relax: A glass of red wine. A crisp copy of The New York Times, if she can wrest it from her husband. Some classical music, preferably Bach. And every night like clockwork, she lifts a pipe to her lips and smokes marijuana.
Long a fixture among young people, use of the country's most popular illicit drug is now growing among the AARP set, as the massive generation of baby boomers who came of age in the 1960s and '70s grows older.
The number of people aged 50 and older reporting marijuana use in the prior year went up from 1.9 percent to 2.9 percent from 2002 to 2008, according to surveys from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
The rise was most dramatic among 55- to 59-year-olds, whose reported marijuana use more than tripled from 1.6 percent in 2002 to 5.1 percent.
Observers expect further increases as 78 million boomers born between 1945 and 1964 age. For many boomers, the drug never held the stigma it did for previous generations, and they tried it decades ago.
Some have used it ever since, while others are revisiting the habit in retirement, either for recreation or as a way to cope with the aches and pains of aging.
Siegel walks with a cane and has arthritis in her back and legs. She finds marijuana has helped her sleep better than pills ever did. And she can't figure out why everyone her age isn't sharing a joint, too.

Some call it discrimination, but others say it is just a sign of the bad job market. One local medical marijuana patient believes he is being turned down for potential jobs because of his medicine.

The husband and father of two, who asked to remain anonymous, has been looking for work for almost a year. During that time, he was prescribed medical marijuana for his knee. While he claims the pain has gone away for the most part, he says his troubles with finding a job have only gotten worse.

"It all falls on me," the man explained. He says his wife and kids aren't able to get work, leaving the responsibility to him.

Being broke and unemployed is just about the worst case scenario for the man from Clifton. "Unemployment is wonderful, it helps. But, it doesn't meet the needs," he said. "It puts you in a rough spot."

Most people would tell him to just give up the drug. But, he says that isn't the solution. He claims that his chronic knee pain can only be masked by marijuana. "Just because people use marijuana for medical reasons doesn't mean they're the typical 'lazy stoner,'" he said.

But, he still feels it is that stigma that has prevented him from getting a new job.

So, we wanted to put this man's fears to the test. We sent a KJCT employee, PJ Edgell, to eight different businesses. He posed as a medical marijuana patient looking for a job.

Once he got in touch with each of the managers, he explained, "I'm a medical marijuana patient. Is that going to be a problem getting hired here?"
