These engines were built from Oct 1 2002 until the first Acert engines came into production. CAT couldn't meet the new emission standard by the deadline and used these engines to reduce emissions during the period..........this is why it's called a bridge motor.........to bridge the period of time between the standard C-15 and the Acert. These engines didn't perform as well as the earlier C-15 because of the programming and hardware used to build them. Most everybody tries to avoid buying a truck with them in it, because fuel mileage and performance isn't that good. They can be reflashed with different files to bring them up in fuel mileage and power with the earlier engines now..........if you know who to talk to.VARITHMS and freightlinerman Thank this.

It was Saturday night when I posted that ya know. You've heard the old saying, "It seemed like a good idea at the time".

Ah geeze, maybe I should avoid the truck I am currently dealing on?
It is a 2004 with a twin turbo ACERT, is this late enough, or is it possible it got caught in the bridge section? -
I've got both a bridge and 2 Acerts. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another of each. The Bridge is an '03 with over 600k and has only been to the shop for valve adjustments and to be uprated. And neither Acert has been in for anything more than a few bad sensors and the same valve adjustments. All depends on how well they've been taken care of. With the Acert just check to see if all the updates have been done.

All bridge motors are single turbo and are non Acert.

I wouldn't be afraid to buy a truck with a bridge motor in, but I know how to get the performance and fuel mileage I'd expect from it.
