Maverick Transportation

First of all, another big thank you for those of you who responded to my earlier thread "Flat vs Van". Your information was very helpful in helping my decision to look into driving flatbed.

I decided to call a Maverick recruiter yesterday to see if they would consider hiring a newbie. I was told 'not at this time, but that is subject to change'. So I'm keepin' my fingers crossed until early spring, when I plan on attending school.

 

I drove for covenant for 14 months no major problems there, drove team with my wife

we came off the road back in may and we have been looking for local work sense then
I found out why I cant get a local job because of a ticket I got 4 years ago that was over 15 MPH over the speed limit

So I am leaving friday night for little rock to get everything rolling with Maverick
looking foreword to it and they said I will be regional. I live in Mich. and they said I will be home almost every weekend. I really hope so that way my marriage does not go in the trash

i have been off the road for 1 year and six months i have been driving for maverick for 3 weeks i am a glass hauler out 2 weeks at a time i didn't know how i was going to like that but everything is so much easier its all straight forward and legal u run legal its kinda nice my fm is cool everything is good nice equip most of my trls pre loaded and live load isn't so great but everything is going good and it is a very good company to work for orentation was very straight forward they make sure u know what ur doin b for u get out on road like they told us "u never know who is in the cars around u they could b some of ur own family that u don't know so treat every other vehicle out on that road like they were ur family in that car and think of that when ur securing that load down and wanna take the easy way out and put not enough securements on it because its only goin so far it does not matter how far u r going stuff something could happen that wasnt ur falt in the beginning and now if u hurt someone because u took a short cut now ur under the gun and plan on not seeing ur family for a while b cause u took the easy way out" they made sure we knew we are profesionals and to act like look like and the way we do our job should refelect on how profesional we are but anywase very good orentation and i learned so much that i did not learn in 2 yrs of previous otr driving ex

 

I was with maverick a couple years in the US div. They are very organized and they have the best orientation I have ever seen. Of all the drivers I knew that complained about them was the drivers that was tearing stuff up a lot or costing them money. Times got tough and they had to trim the expenses. To this day I would recommend them. I was always treated good and really had no complaints on them as a company.

 

I'm supposed to hear something soon, newb hiring is supposed to start up in december. I was told this by recruiting a few weeks back. I'm a local driver in and around Philly but apparently that doesn't count. Only thing I don't get is I have to go specialized, I see Maverick flats around here allll the time, I mean allllll the time, anyone knoe why they don't hire flatbed outta Philly? At least I know where Berkowitz is already....

 

Strictly a guess on my part...

But I'd say they need specialized drivers...glass has been slow, but its picking back up lately and they need more drivers.

 

I drive for Maverick Specialized and I was told our division is good. I get a lot of miles, mostly glass, but when glass is slow I do flatbed stuff. Seems like the best of both worlds to me. But I do Canada a bunch. Not a problem, but some folks don't (or can't) go there.

 

Whereabouts in Canada do you haul to ? Where do those loads originate from, on the US-side ? Thanks

 

Was at Maverick HQ early last week. They are hiring Specialized division now
