I think someone mentioned it already, but it goes by what MC is it operating under. Your new truck would be under your IFTA account, the lease truck, even though it’s your plate, would be under the IFTA account of the MC it’s operating under. I saw it mentioned about you being the same driver for both trucks, that would not matter in this question you’re asking. It’s only about what MC is a unit and corresponding plate operating under. Yes, one could sit while you drive the other. The only challenge will be that insurance is not a la carte, so while one truck is sitting, you’re paying insurance on something you’re not using.
One truck leased, one truck under my authority?

I wanted to follow up on this. So the leased truck is on one policy, and the truck under my own authority is a totally separate policy.
So yes, I carry two policies year round that are totally separate.Last edited: May 1, 2021

You can not carry liability or cargo while under a lease. Insurance goes with authority.
Now Progressive wants, or wanted all commercial equipment you own on thier policy. Not all companies require this.
I had one in business name on progressive, and one in personal name with northland. Just told progressive my llc no longer owned that truck.
12 months with the morons at progressive was enough for me. They are not experience with commercial equipment as they claim. -
