So while fueling at the yard the other day I slipped while holding onto the nozzle (it’s short because it’s a “custom” repair.
Which resulted in me, the ground, and the truck taking a nice bath.

I didn’t think much of it just a few curse words and a change of clothes. Throw some kitty litter on it and I’m good to go right?

some yahoo otr driver was picking up a load and started talking about how expensive it was gonna be to clean up. I just laughed and and went on with my day.

But it got me thinking. How big of a spill does it take before something is regarded as hazmat? 20 gallons? 100?

I’ve seen guys dump 20gallons at the truck stop and never seen a hazmat crew show up.

I believe it is listed as "reportable quantity"

Diesel I think is 25 gallons or more.

I'm not involved with transportation of dangerous goods, I found the reportable quantity of diesel in a Google search.

Yeah I’ll be honest I’m not gonna change anything about how I handle stuff. I grew up on a farm so let’s just say I’ve seen far worse.
hell I’ve seen worse at this place (we won’t go into why the nozzle is “custom” exactly but it’s in regard to pressurized sprayers)
    I was just curious.

I don’t put much stock in google honestly. I also find open discussions a lot more entertaining.

I did a environmental at my last company job, don’t of the regs are a joke, I remember loading 4 roll off cans with 15-17 ton of dirt off an accident scene when a 150 gallon tank got ripped open to drive from NH to Michigan. Another cop worker loaded an oven in Boston to go to sarnia Ontario because it was painted with leaf paint, no other debris, not a load of them, just a single household oven, which we still laugh about to this day

It depends on which state it happened in....
