Montana-based Jim Palmer Trucking sold

I will be interested to hear from some of there drivers in a few months to see how it goes.
This was not a bad company, and if they expand there working area it could raise miles.

 

they are too small to expand much more than they already are without having to increase the fleet, and with the market right now i dont see that happening

i can see them going the route of montana express in a few short months though......total liquidation thru auction

First, 'but these guys we feel pretty comfortable with' doesn't exactly sound like a ringing endorsement from Jim. In fact, it sounds like just the opposite.

Second, owning a small flatbed service is a completely different animal than owning a medium- sided OTR van carrier like Jim Palmer Trucking.

I hope I'm wrong, but this seems like its going to end badly.

 

Pretty nice rigs for cheap then, though.

At least they used to have nice equipment.

 

To start out with, your interpretation of the first comment about Jim Palmer being comfortable with the new owners is not really open to your interpretation. He has his reasons for selling the company to who he decides. A man in this business for over 40 years deserves for us small business owners and single truck owners to respect his decisions as they are clearly more educated.

And your knowledge of these two men's business capabilities is limited to one or two lines in the newspaper. Take it from someone who worked for them while I lived in Chicago, these men have enough knowledge to develop a larger business.

After all, Jim Palmer began this business with one truck, much less than these two men have already.

 

Why is it not open to my interpretation? As someone whose company runs in some of the same lanes as Palmer, it would seem to be prudent for me to scrutinize his press releases. 'But these guys we feel pretty comfortable with' is not the most strongly- worded endorsement. You'd have to agree that there are better ways to word that statement. You are right, I don't know what was in Palmer's mind when he made the statement. That is why the odd wording is so important.

A man who has been in business for 40 years does deserve our respect. But a man who is selling his business after struggling in bankruptcy will rightfully get our scrutiny. Yeah, he's more educated than me, but his company is also more bankrupt. When he was successful, we can learn from his good practices. When his company went bankrupt, we can learn from his mistakes.

What is the name of the new owner's flatbed company in Chicago? That's part of my problem with the article. They give almost no information about the purchasers, which makes them seem less than transparent. You worked for them, so give me a little info on the company. Their name and nmfc # would be great.

Did that. Unless the name of their company is 'a small flatbed service in the Chicago area' I haven't seen one place that actually says the name of their company.

Any other hints?

It's a big red flag to me that no one seems to know or want to print the name of this flatbed company, but yet it is being used to give legitimacy to these new owners. Even 'carlyle' can't seem to come up with the name of the company, and he/she worked there.

 

I will have to go back and read the article. Google in the new owners NAMES and go from there, will let'cha know I agree about the lack of info in the paper about there current state of AFFAIRS in Chicago, which leads to suspicion! But as of late that is all you read any more in the papers , either spit it out or hit the road
