TND TABLET WILL NOT BOOT UP

No it is stuck.on the loading compass

 

On the TND80, you can't do the power on + volume up trick. Since it's on the loading screen, you have to be able to get into the settings to do a factory reset. Impossible to do with it stuck on the compass. RM can do it, they have the means to hook it up and force it into engineering mode, reset it, seethes it back to you, and if it's out of warranty, they will do it for the low low price of $100 :eyeroll:

Yeah I don't get why they didn't add this feature on the tnd80. The overdryve has it. Both units run off an android OS. Like I posted earlier, Mark had sent me some sd cards. I believe this is what they will do if you send it in for repair because you turn off the unit, insert ther first card and turn it back on. It then goes into engineering mode, does its thing. You power it off, swap cards and reboot. It then reinstalls the map program. When I did it, it took all of about half an hour. I misplaced the cards. I ended up buying a refurb 540 lm from their site which cost less than half of what a brand new one costs. Ironically, the refurbs come with a year manufacturer warranty, just like the brand new ones do.

 

I have the exact same problem with my tnd80 ! nothing works. engineering mode will not come up. updating for sd card does not work. . hard reset does not change anything at all other than to go back to the same compass and loading message. I don't have a bootable sd download. Have downloaded a SD card with map update. had everything working for a while after OS update months ago when it would not find any routes.

I tried to get rand mcnally to give me instructions on how to do this. Apparently, there is a way, but even out of warranty they won't divulge. I was told that holding volume up and power wouldn't work on the 80 for whatever reason, but if you sprang for the one that came out after the 80, it will work.

 

problem is that engineering mode worked before I updated the OS system to fix the no route problem they created with an update. Apparently they deleted the availability of this option when you do this OS upgrade. Now it will not. They want me to pay to fix a problem they created ! I don't consider that good business!

 

Yeah, I remember that update. I was on the phone with their support explaining the issue. Tech said they were aware of it(this was a year or so ago) with just this model, something in the update caused it and they didn't have a fix.
I went the Karen route, I constantly emailed over and over, called them out on their Facebook page, tons of instant messages. Finally they sent me a 740, I sent the 80 back. Told them thanks but the next gps I was going to buy was going to be off the internet, couldn't do worse than their product.
