They are only going to pay me 25c a mile. Will I make any money driving at that amount? I have a family at home and a pick-up truck payment. I do have some extra cash and I've purchased a 1998 Freightliner Century from a friend (I thought it was cheap at 7500). It has 785,000 with a 475 cat. It runs and drives good. What would your advise be? Owner Operate or stay with the company for a little while?

    Thanks

I have no idea about owner op, my mind isn't geared towards business i am afraid to say. I can't believe they are starting you out at 25c a mile thoiugh, and if you do take your dog with you thats an extra penny a mile loss.

This is what they sent me:

The next step in training is the 6 week otr training. You will be running the 48states & Canada, I do suggest to try and get the 6 weeks of training over and done with prior to taking home, if you can. While in training you are paid a flat rate of pay and it is as follows:
    Weeks 1&2 $375.00 per week
    Weeks 3&4 $400.00 per week
    Weeks 5&6 $500.00 per week
Once you have completed the 6 weeks of the over the road training and you have passed your final upgrade road test, you will then be assigned to your own truck, running the 48 states & Canada, average weekly miles are 2500 to 2800 per week, average time out is 14 to 21 days with 2 to 3 days back home and you could possibly see a roll through the house every 10 days due to the area that you live in. Your pay is as follows:
    .25cpm for 90 days
    .26cpm for 90 days
    .28cpm for 6 months
    .29cpm for the next year

Thats gonna be hard to swing I think. As far as payment wise at home.

    #### Gilbert, what are you currently doing for employment? I believe my monthly takehome is about 1600 a month.

I just quit a factory job. I hate factories. At 25c a mile do you think I could swing close to what your making? At 1600 a month I'd be fine at home. Or at least somewhere close to 1600. Well, actually taking an animal I'll be making 24c a mile. Any idea about what I'd make on average a month?

I appreciate it. I just don't want to work my butt off for a company and only make less than 300 a week every week. I don't mind it in the beginning being in the low 300's because I'm new and fresh outta school, but I'd like to make a decent income for the year.

At 25 cents a mile bro you are gonna starve. With this compant at 35 cents I can't make ends meet. They don't have the miles. The last week I have pulled a dry van and have had descent miles but still not good compared to what I used to do with other companies. If I was you would look somewhere else. I know I am. I went to work there in Aug and have to say this is the worst company I have ever worked for and I have 10 years exp so I know a little bout what I'm sayin

I have purchased a 1998 Freightliner Century with a 475hp cat in it. I've have family members that owner operated. Do you know of any companies that are good to work for and that will accept a 1998 to lease on to them with?
