So both my controls for light interrupter (left side) and radio and phone controls on (right side) of the steering wheel have stopped working. Anybody had this problem and if so what did you do - besides take it to the dealer?
2014 VNL 780 - the horn works and don't have an SRS airbag light...I don't know if these go through the steering ring but believe if it was the ring - I would have an airbag issue....

Get a test light and start chasing.

The steering wheel buttons send information to the cluster (Dash), then the cluster share the command received through J-1939 to the others ecu Light Control Module and Radio.
Did you have any repair recently, steering colum joint, radio replacement ?
Your contact reel under the steering wheel can be defective without air bag fault code.
Do you have any check light ON with J-1939 DTC ?

Just to be clear did they all stop working at once? Or all buttons on each side at once? Or did they go out slowly and you can occasionally get them to work if you push hard or fool with them? I ask because mine were all gooked up from the PO and I've had to hit them with electronics cleaner a few times but they work now with a firm press.

I don't want to hijack but this may help the OP, how do you get the buttons off? Looks like each side housing would pop off but I don't want to break clips and mine won't come free easily. Pull the wheel? No screws underneath that I can see.

    Thanks for the advice...

I did remove both controls (remove airbag and each control is screwed down), cleaned them and put them back. I did note the light interrupter control is connected to the radio/phone control. Can't seem to find the 12V schematic for this configuration. Anybody have a copy and I could start chasing down the wires to see if maybe the ring is not making contact?

And no don't have any codes - both just went out.

Could you elaborate a little about this disk (I know it's been 4 years, lol) is it right under the wheel?
