2021 Peterbilt 348 parking brake horn...

    Hello,

    I'm currently driving a 2021 Peterbilt 348 roll off truck. It has a safety feature where if you don't depress the brake pedal hard enough (Or whichever way the truck likes it) for at least three seconds before pushing in the parking brake valve, the city horn comes on. I get that it's a necessary safety feature and a good reminder if one forgers to set their parking brake before exiting but at the same time it gets to the point where it becomes a nuisance. It has honked while my foot was on the brake pedal firmly and scared the crap out of people nearby (Including a DOT officer who was doing my roadside inspection LMAO ) so is there any chance I can get rid of this feature? I couldn't find tips anywhere and hoping y'all can help me with this.

    Yes, just disable the city horn. On the subject of the DOT. I remember when some weighmasters would pull trucks in because they had DRLs on. Took a while for them to see drivers could not control them. The same can be said for those new headlights that started coming out around 2000. I can't remember how many times I had other drivers think I had my high beams on.

    This is the dumbest thing i’ve ever heard. Why do i have to depress the foot brake to release the parking break? What if i already have the truck in gear and am ready to roll?


    They just can’t get enough of these nanny things can they? Smh. Let a guy turn the key and do his job.

    On some freightliners if you don’t close the door all the way and release the brake the air horns go off

    Does the horn still go off with the door shut and the ignition on? Only wondering because the Kenworths I've driven that had that setup but because it was wired up off the interior light, the light is delayed in going off with the ignition turned off. So if you release the park brake the horn goes off until the interior light goes off. When the ignition is turned on or the motor is running, the light goes out as soon as you close the door.

    I didn't think of that. I'll check to see if that's the case. I've had it go off with the door closed and my foot firmly on the brake pedal, and at times I've been able to release the parking brake without stepping on the brake pedal at all when picking up dumpsters and no honking. I didn't realize that it might be related to the interior light going off.

    I appreciate all the tips fellows. This forum is a wealth of knowledge as always for newbies like me :) If anything I'll just disconnect the city horn or have the dealer look at it for a better solution.

    I know the Dodge Ram pickups will honk the horn if you place it in reverse with the drivers door open .
