Are there positions that allow Hotels nightly while working?

I seen quite a few car haulers in a motel I used to frequent. Long runs and no sleeper, motels kinda mandatory.

 

NEMF was a company that had daycabs. Yet I think they went under.
Why cant you stay in a sleeper?

Drive away work like delivering new trucks from the manufacture to the dealership.

 

Best to find a small company that deliveres its own product. I work for a small plant nursery, 15 trucks mostly box trucks, drive whatever is required from a Sprinter van to a 48' trailer with daycab tractor.

I am paid by the hour and overtime for any hours over 40, average 55 hours per week. Right now during the busy season I am running right up to 70 hours a week. I get to chose what hotels I stay at and book them myself, therefore I get to bank the rewards points. Try to stay at Holidays Inn as much as possible. I rarely pay for hotels when I go on vacation, you can also use the points for gift cards.

I am generally out 1-2 nights a week and are usually off on the weekends.

The downside is it's a seasonal position so have to find something else to do in the winter. Used to deliver heating oil, did propane tanker, and ran Amazon this last winter. You also have to help unload your own truck and the plant racks are quite heavy. We deliver to large businesses and people working out of there houses, and job sites so some deliveries can be quite difficult. Your schedule is all over the place with no set start time so no getting into a routine, sometimes start at midnight, other days start at 7am.
Small company so the benefits are not the greatest.

I believe getting paid by the hour is the best way, especially since we run the Northeast alot. The company is focused on making money on the plants, and as long as you are getting the job done and don't cost the company a fortune, they don't care if the shipping department is making money.

I was going to mention box truck jobs. Some are OTR with a hotel room for sleep times.
Some hotshot companies put drivers in hotel room at night.

Heck, even some big otr companies have hotel based runs. The hotel I was staying at last month on vacation had two different Convenient sleeper trucks every night.

 

There are also "other" type drivers that stay in hotels a lot. Greyhound and Charter bus company drivers do. Honestly, I have stayed in hotels more than I would care to admit. After a while you develop a hatred of them, at least I did! I have a cousin that was for many years an associate road manager for a famous singer. She stayed in hotels for years. At the last family reunion, I attended, she told me that she still hated hotels.
