About the only thing near this I can compare it to is one time a broker told me it was a no tarp load of lumber but the bills the shipper wanted me to sign said it had to be tarped. She got pissy with me when I told her I don't work for free and I can't sign paperwork that holds me responsible for 48k of lumber. Broker got ahold of the customer ordering the lumber and they got ahold of the shipper. Little while later I left with the correct paperwork, not tarped.

Seems like a lot of the craziness I see on here tends to be van or refer. Rejected refer loads etc.

I have a couple to add.
Backhaul direct has a part in the contract that says, if their customer does not pay for the load, then they won't pay you.

Spot freight has a part that carrier is responsible for "consequential damages" if the load is not delivered on on time.
The way I read it, they can charge me for basically anything if I am late. For example if factory's production line stops because they are waiting for the product in my truck, I can even be liable for the profit that factory loses

I guess, I haul everything and anything off the boards and haven't had a problem. I guess like you said it depends on what you're hauling, especially if you're more specialized I suppose.

Haul for a major company that doesn't show profits yet then be late and charge them for all the money you just saved them by shutting that #### down.

I had one finally. Customer told broker 192x96x96. Got there, and it was 10' tall. He gave me $150 immediately, apologized, and asked if I'd measure it personally so he could update his posting.

Well that reminds me of a joke. Not sure I can post it, but the mods will decide.

This man and wife had fallen on hard times. They finally decided she'd go to the corner and give BJ's for cash. The next morning he picked her up, and asked how she did.

    "I made $200.05!" She said.

"$200.05?!?" he asked. "What ####### only gave you a nickel?"

    "All of them."
