Just like the international press claims the USA is a shooting gallery because several big cities contribute enough crime to keep the stats high, while vast areas of the US go years or decades without a murder; the US media makes no distinction between drug cartel crime in certain areas of Mexico and the low-crime snowbird zones.

So we are a go for a implant procedure for the Mrs.
June 13 to Phoenix and grab a car and drive to Yuma. Flights are cheap, car rentals not so much.
Will stay in their Airbnb during the week to stay close to the clinic. This is a major procedure w bone grafts and a sinus lift. It is referred to as a 6 on 6, which basically is all the teeth replaced w 3 implant anchors each for upper and lower jawbone.
Local cost estimates were 70 to 80 thousand for the procedure and we will pay 70% up front in Mexico and the rest after the procedure for a total of just under 20 thousand. Anesthesia is a separate charge by another doctor.
Reputable oral surgeon accredited by the ADA..go figure, so the wife ,who did the research and is willing to endure the process and pain that comes with it, chose this particular doctor.
She is a 2 time cancer survivor and is 12 yrs cancer free but her teeth didn't take to the treatments.
    Lifetime warranty..I know, it's like a new car..lol
And will now require a annual visit or a full mouth xray sent to doctor to examine annually.
Those who have a better half that takes care of us and everything else while we truck our lives away may understand my decision to spend the money on a foreign procedure for her that could possibly go sideways. It's what she wants.

So, if I got this, you have to go to Mexico for any follow up? And the prices you speak of may seem like a special deal, although I'm out of the loop considerable, but if you're going into hock, what's a little more? IDK, I just worry that there will be some emergency down the line,, and a local dentist won't touch you. "oh, one of those "Mexican" jobs, I see, can't help ya",,the healthcare system is so crooked today, I could see that happening. I wish you guys luck, personally, I'd put it all on a credit card, and then default( I read credit card debt is not liable to family if you die, the reason we pay such high rates) and they can cram it with walnuts. Bilking our savings so these spoiled brats can live like kings. It's tough feeding into that at our age, we can't work to make that up. It's a mess, best of luck, really.

They do warranty the work for lifetime..hopefully it's not like the auto dealers lifetime warranty.
Will have to return annually for inspection/maintenance or subsequent work.
Airfare is $250 round trip for both so not a deal breaker there. The saving is substantial and told the wife I'd be willing to pay the cost here in the states but she is a penny pinching kind of a gal, and she did the advance leg work, including vetting the doctor so not too concerned on that front. Always a risk during any surgery but after hearing her reasoning and rational I'm convinced that "dental tourism " is legit and safe.
I'm not sure that any US dentist could tell that the implants were from out of the country. They use the same materials and equipment that any local doctor might use.
Tried to talk her into dentures but she wasn't buying.
I do appreciate your response and good wishes and will update in June/July as appropriate..
    Cheers.

People have been going to mexico for at least 30 years to get dental work and usually safe in the heavily policed tourist areas so I hear.

Malpractice insurance......Doctors/dentists here in the states have it/need it and it's expensive, right ? So, obviously, they charge more for their services. In Mexico, I'm not positive, but I don't believe it's necessary there. Office rent, the same. More expensive here than in Mexico. Lots of rules and regulations here in the states, not in Mexico. Many doctors in Mexico educated in the states. Every time I go to a dentist in the states, they want to do way more than I want done. More $$$, right ? I will say I'm not sure I would go to a dentist in Mexico. And I live very close to the border. I have gotten meds there with no problems.

I’ve been going to Dr. Bartell in Tijuana since I was a kid. I’ve got very good teeth. I do my cleanings and basic dental there. They did a root canal maybe ten years ago it was $126 including the pain meds and cab fare. It was $299 for the zircon (or whatever crown). The local dentist wanted $3000. Plus I bought some tequila for cheap. My wife drops me off at the border and goes to the outlet shops. Grab a taxi after walking across the border, and tell them Dr. Bartell’s on revolution. When you’re done they call a taxi for you and you walk back across the border. Call my wife and we’re gone. Easy.

The decor is straight 1970-80’s and all the equipment comes in wrapped and sterile packages.

Like I said I’ve been going there for a long time.
