Old school wood stoves dating to the 70s and 80s... I had an old Fisher freestanding wood stove in my old place, that stove is now stored out back in a shed.

I modified the above stove, when I first got it, to add the heat exchanger pipes, air box & fan (on rear of stove.)

My new house has a Hurricane wood insert.

Both stoves are older but very good in my opinion, both were known to be some of the best in thier time.

He's got a splint to immobilize it, which is padded with gauze and held in place with Vet Wrap. For the first couple days he was pretty much immobile without help. Since then he has remembered how to crawl and scoot to get around almost as fast as before.

    Very nice.
I purchased my first, and only stove in 1978, a Cawley LeMay. Once I finish my cabin, it will be front and center. I love, love, love wood heat.

So do I... Its all I've had to heat with for over 8 winters now.

The Fisher stove I have has a slightly larger fire box, and can handle wood up to 22" long. And it has the capability roast folks out of the house if you're not careful.

I remember one night shortly after my wife moved in with me... It was -13° outside, with windchill its was closer to -25°. We lived in an old run down trailer house that the wind would literally blow in one side and out the other.

My wife said it was "a little chilly" and asked me to poke some more wood in the fire. I told her "Ya know, once I put it in... I cant take it out."

But she insisted. So I poked a couple more pieces in the stove and opened the drafts another half turn... 40 mins later she was standing in the front door with it wide open, letting that bitterly cold north wind blow over her and into the house, it was 95° in the living room. She has never complained about it being "a little chilly" since, she just gets a blanket... LOL

The Hurricane on the other had can only handle wood up to 18" long, and doesnt pump out quite as much heat as the Fisher. But our new house is insulated very well and it easily keeps most of the house comfortable.
