I've had a pretty uneventful week, couple turns out to Pensacola and up to Alabama and back. I have to train a new guy starting tomorrow, not sure if I'm really looking forward to that. I'm a neat freak when it comes to my truck, and very particular in the way I do things but I'm willing to give it a shot. As for your truck problems @Arctic_fox I feel for you, I had a co-worker pick up a 2014 Pete with a Paccar and that lasted all of 2 months, literally broke down on his 1st run and kept him down for 2 weeks, pretty tough to recover from that. You seem ambitious though so hopefully this won't hold you back from getting ahead soon.

 

Oh boy I don’t envy you training. How long does he go with you for? And does he have any dump experience that you know of?

 

Big oof. New trainee, hopefully he wont be too bad and has experince. As for ambitious....i think its more that i could give a mule lessons in being stubborn and am too thick skulled to just give up that easily.

As to the truck they seem to have found the problem. Apparently when MHC changed my quality sensor at the START of all this ####, they forgot to also change a valve that NEEDS to be changed at the same time as the quality sensor to avoid all my issues. Was listed on the paperwork but never actully got done and the guy showed me a badly corroded and nearly jammed shut valve. Glad i made them go back over everything with a fine toothed comb. If this actully fixes it then MHC owes me for all my #### parts at a minimum.

I should be back up tomorrow and with luck knock on wood i should have some smooth sailing ahead.....Though as i told my friend who said the same thing. Im debateing putting a picture of a kracken eating a boat in a massive storm on the back of my truck with the words "smooth sailing" over it considering my luck XD

 

Unfortunately he has no experience so my "concerned" factor will be that much higher but we all started somewhere right? I'm loaded with cold patch for the morning, I'll dump that and walk him through the process, we'll go up and pre-load another cold patch for Monday, I'll probably let him try to dump that, then grab a load of shell and drop that Tuesday morning. Cold patch and shell are some of the slower to move out of the trailer loads so that'll be a good indicator of how material feels coming out of the trailer, all 3 customers are regulars as well and not the best dumping situations so he'll get to learn real quick how to improvise. Wish me luck........

I seriously cant win for losing lol. They finally fixed my def issues. But i got 20 miles and blew my heater core fitting. Le sigh.

 

So we’ve covered bones, and touched on JK Williams. What about some of the other dump outfits in KC? Pem hauling, claymore, Sutton, Scott heller, material transport (blue trucks with aluminum beds, not sure of the exact name), ect. R.L. Hanna and sons is literally 2 miles from my house. I grew up watching and riding in dump trucks at House of Rocks where my dad was the manager when I was a kid.

I love what I do now and they pay me stupid money to do it, but I’m gone at least a month at a time and would eventually like to be home more.

 

You'll maybe need to ask @motocross25 specifically. I think he lives somewhere around that area. I'm from central Illinois. I've just been nosing around trying to find someplace to get back into end dumps that would work for my wife an i as a team. I truly miss that kind of work but presently actually switching jobs is off the table since I'm rehabbing the wrist i broke in march.

 

I am in no means trying to come off as a know-it-all or anything of the such but I can share what LITTLE info I know about some of the KC area companies. Even if it’s just commenting on their truck quality haha
P.E.M I’ve heard is a smaller outfit and they do a lot of regional work in the Midwest. I think mainly aggregate. They always have sharp looking trucks and they pick up chip & seal rock from our yard quite often. Their drivers are always nice and courteous.
Claymore does a lot of cement plant feeding. Clay and sand and they’ve picked up alongside me in Oklahoma before getting red clay for the cement plant in KC. I’ve heard they are all paid hourly and quite handsomely as well. Way out in the woods one time in Oklahoma I hadn’t been to this particular clay pit and a claymore guy talked me thru the whole thing, let me load first so he could tell me where to back, and how to load it because it was a fairly sticky product.
Sutton I actually applied to before I moved to KC and at the time the recruiter said I’d be bounced around between pneumatic and end dump. The py was percent and they had a fairly weak insurance package I remember. But a pretty aggressive safety bonus system. I’m not sure where they go anytime I’ve seen them is at the sand plant in Bonner Springs or our yard and they just say their truck number and “same way”. And I never catch them on their first round to see what way that is.
Heller I see a lot going into asphalt plants. Since they have a more construction based outfit I think asphalt and tear out jobs keep them busy.
Material Transport is owned by Martin Marietta quarry and mine. So they report to them all day and go wherever. I think a lot of pad work and AB-3 rock from the way it sounds when they check in.
RL Hanna if I’m not mistaken is from Harrisonville but @kylefitzy correct me if I’m wrong. Super nice trucks a lot of them. We see them at concrete plants haulin the same thing we are a lot of time. And out at the salt mine.
Tom Peace is another one in the KC area and they are known to use the commercial zone to the limit. We have 40 ton hoists and I think they have 60. Lots of local work but they advertise wanting road driver as well.

Yes Hanna is out of Harrisonville, mo.

I loaded a Peace truck with salt back when I worked at Semco in Belton. I asked how much he wanted and he told me “45”, I asked “45 thousand?”, and he just giggled. “No, 45 tons”, okay, filled his framed tri axle trailer up nearly full.
