    How well do Y'all think that a 505hp with 3.79 rears and an 18spd would pull up to 130,000lbs gross?

    There's a guy who restored and ran a Crackerbox with a 238 6-71 and 10 speed. If he could haul coils with that setup, you CAN haul 130,000 with this setup. Your question to yourself is how fast do you want to go up hills and how quickly do you want to get to cruising speed?

    I didn’t the see trans mentioned in the ad.

    My nephew works at a heavy haul place and they have 600 HP 18 speed W900s
    They have 3.73 a lea and the tall 24.5 tires . They have a few trucks that have the fourth axle , the four axle rigs have 4.11 gears.

    he regularly grosses 105-125 with the 600hp 18 speed 3.73 and likes it.

    the had one rig that had 3.50 axles and it was noticeably weaker than the 3.73
    You’d think just dropping down a gear in the trans would make up for it , but it won’t. They would regularly have two or three rigs running together hauling the exact same cargo and the 3.50 axle truck was not able to keep up.

    I forget how the diff ratio works. Isnt the bigger number faster and the smaller one more torque? or is it the other way around? Im not too concerned about getting to cruising speed fast, but at least being able to maintain close to it and getting it going on inclines. The Peidmont region of North Carolina is not exactly the flatest and I wouldn't mind running west over to the appalachains either.

    Other way around. 4.11 is a lower gear than 3.55. 4.11 will pull a hill better, but 3.55 will have a higher top speed, and lower cruising RPM.

    Ok cool thank you. The Raleigh area is growing insanely fast, there is plenty of lowboy work around which is why im not too relunctant to take a day cab as a first truck. Worst case i stay in a hotel a night or two here or there. Not sure hoe realostic that really is but does seem like

    Everyone knows you need 2.something useless rears.... that’s the only way to make money with a truck....

    a 350 will pull it fine with a 13/18 or even a pos 8ll with 3.70-4.10s. above that is just gravey

    Depending on what 505 it is a 3.90 with 11r24.5s will probably be right about perfect, or a 4.10-4.33 if you are going to be running slower

    I don’t care how close you stay always get a bunk, even a small one, I’ve made quite a bit of money sleeping In my bunk 14 miles from my house working hourly. Then halfway through the payment book when you have a falling out with whoever you are getting work through, you still have options

    Big hp - up hill faster but, you want to go down without burning brakes up . Speed isn't the essence, how fast do you want to be going with 100k + gross when all of a sudden you got to stop? You're not the problem out there ,it's the D.A's that would pull out in front of a train! 400 or 450 hp with plenty gears and good engine brake would be my choice. I'm in the mountains , 425 - 13 sp - 4.63 , hauled 200k and less most every week , little slower than others ,faster than some. As fast and as safe as the road would allow is the speed your looking for. Your driving so it's your baby to rock!
