Sorry for not getting back sooner to you guys...I moved to the Martin/Toccoa area over the Labor Day weekend...tried getting hired on with Rhoel and a couple of others...they said my DAC had a fired from my last job (with Universe) I called Universe and the saftery guy said I had a 15 minute into a 70 hr log violation...well I dunno how that could be cause I was out on Sunday and in on Friday...every week...

Now I have NOTHING bad to say about Universe whatsoever...Those guys know how to run a company and treat their drivers very well...I made a good little bit of money with them (enough to get me relocated) and they had me home every single week no matter if i ran to NYC/NJ/ and even Maine...all from Omaha Nebraska...My feelings is ALL BIG companies could use the SAMEformula and technique Universe does.

    For example:

All loads run from either Nebraska Beef or Omaha Beef which is directly across the street from the terminal...Depending on where you deliver, you get between $150 to $300 advance (cashed check in hand) which is to cover any tolls and lumpers...often times I came away with some cash left over which they let you keep ...They reimburse everything you spend in lines of the truck (tolls lumpers scales NOT FOOD OR LUXERY ITEMS)
and even with a 3 or 4 cent perdiem (i forget what it is now) I still walked away each wek with a minimum of over $600 to $1000/week depending on if i went to NYC or whereever...they pay a bonus for going to NYC and above VA.

Now for the bad news...I got hired on with Arnold...right before the US Xpress buyout...(Arnold still claims to not be US Xpress but all the companies they bought are now on their boards)...I cannot seem to make more than 350 to 400 per week...even less than I was making with Werner
On top of that I was promised to be home EVERY weekend but i get home every 2 weeks...
Recently some issues have come up on the home front and I have had to divert after being loaded to go by the house to straighten them out...I am afraid if I stay out OTR much longer I may run the risk of losing everything once again...

I am seriously looking for some company in my area or in the NE region of ga that will hire me even though i have 1 log violation / termination on record...that is the only real black mark i have on me...and throughout almost 6 years of driving have a perfect safety record with no road accidents, moving violations, speeding tickets in the past 3 years

Now the whole goal in all this is to be home on a weekly or even daily basis...be treated professionally and not lied to or stolen from....

At the moment I am considering becoming a satellite dish installer just to have another job skill that may branch out to something in the future...as much as i love driving truck i am just becoming more and more disgusted at the corporate greed that has overtaken the industry and caused so much pain for drivers....and the sad thing is, trucking is the final industry in America to stop before another great depression.

BirdDog, did you try going back to Werner? I know they aren't the greatest but they have a terminal off of I20 west of Atlanta. It should do until you find something else.

Yep tried to get back with Werner...I was gone from them all of 7 months...in which time they considered me to be a new recruit...saying I'd have to start all over again...I was like WTF???? I spent 5 years with you guys....

They act like they don't know me. I did manage to get on with Arnold back in end of September....but now they have been bought into USX fold, so I dunno what that holds for the future...I have talked to alot of USX O/O and they seem to be making good money $700/800 per week whereas I am managing to scrape by with $450/week.....Boy i sure do feel like I am starting over again with those wages LOL....

I am wanting to go O/O because there have been a few cases where I was dispatched into some "sketchy" areas and had run-ins with questionabler characters....When I was with Universe I could bring my dog onboard at no cost and he even saved my life once when I was in Detroit....since then I have had 1/2 a mind to carry a stun flashlight or find a way to bring the dog on board.

I sure would like to get back to running reefer again....
