Let him fly the flag, he fought in 3 wars, and received the highest award that our military can issue, to me that's enough to let him have his 21-foot flagpole, but this is the "New America" where we have no respect for the people in our past that made this place the way that it is

Not that I disagree here, but he chose to live where he is at. The same country that he fought to defend and live in has the right for the owners to chose what they want in the housing association.

Does this mean, we need to remove the rights of all people for just one person?

I don't mind disagreement, but the good Colonel won:

    WARNING: Thread Hijack ahead

Why is it that in order to live in certain neighborhoods, one MUST submit to and obey with utter humility to an association of homeowners? If I have the money to buy the property, then it is mine. Why should I be limited as to what type of grass I can have or if some type of decoration is "acceptable" to the "oh-so-tolerant" lefty that lives 4 houses down? It's my land! As long as it doesn't look like a junkyard or long abandoned then who cares.

How are you so sure that he wasn't there long before anyone else include the great HOA? He's 90 years old. He may have come back from the war and built that house in an empty field. What right does anyone have to tell him what to do with his own property?

So you are saying people have a right not to respect our flag?

The Colonel should have the right to fly the flag...whose rights are being violated even more?

I am very familiar with Common Interests Developments or CID's....aka HOA's......
All the Colonel has to do is drag this out in ligation and bankrupt the Association....And then the flowers won't be planted; or trash removed; the pool and the spa will turn a lovely shade of green......
My suggestion to the morons who don't like the flag flying.....

Get a lesson in history....Men such as the Colonel sacrificed their very lives so you can have your Beemers and your Starbucks "just so"....

there is a quote on another forum
If you don't want to stand in front of our troops feel free to stand in front of them

I live north of the 49th but I believe that Vets everywhere NEED to be respected and I'm thinking 30 or so years ago this kind of foolishness would have caused a linching
