Does any one know what its like working with Landatar as an O/O? they say you take what loads you want when you want. Is this really true? every one seems to say that. what kind of pay out do some of their regional hauls make? what kind of bemifits? What are the employees like?

You pick your own loads from the Landstar load board or call Landstar agents. When I was at Landstar different loads pay different rates. For example you could get good rates Chicago or Ohio to northeast. Getting anything out of the northeast was hard and it was cheap freight. Not sure how the rate are currently. It been 5 years since I was at Landstar

I did not like how agents post a load. When you called to see if it was available, it was not. Landstar does not have loads. The Landstar Agent might call shipper in morning see what loads they have and list them on Landstar load board. If you call in afternoon about one of the loads. The agent calls shipper back to see if it was still available. Sometimes the load was available and sometimes another trucking company already agreed to take it. All the loads you see on Landstar load board won't be available. That's how it was when I was their.

It’s bad, somehow they moved over 3 billion dollars in freight, but they don’t have any loads available. How does that work?

They move freight but finding the good loads was difficult. Some agents have their own trucks. One agent I new had some good loads. I got one from her and never could get another one. Her husband had a brand new truck. She was the agent her husband was a driver. So she would give him the good loads. The agents are independent just like the drivers. So they can do stuff like that.

Landstar told me, they tell everyone that something like only 32% of the loads were posted on load board. I knew NOG agent pretty good. He was good guy and 2 million dollars a year agent. He almost never posted his loads. He had enough driver that would call him and cover his loads.
So of you find the agents with good loads you can do better then just getting loads from the load board. -
