Hello O/O i picked up a load from TQL confirmation says 20,000 pounds estimated.

turned out to be 41k ‍♂️ What should I do ? Demand more money? How should I go about that?

Park at the scale, call the agent, tell them you'll be happy to return to sender if'n they don't cough up the dough.

    Deliver the load.
You can call the broker and ask them to add some to the rate. If they do great. If they don’t, too bad.
You could take it back to the shipper and tell them to take it off. If you do that, get ready to be charged for that.

If the load was supposed to be 40k and it turned out to be 15k would you call the broker up and give money back?

It works both ways. Every load I book has to be profitable at max weight regardless of the actual weight.

Book every load as if it's going to be 45,000 pounds. I just got home from a full truckload I was expecting to be 34,000 pounds, and it turns out it was 3,400 pounds. Saved a bunch on fuel this trip.

Nah they're paying you to haul "up to" x amount. It's same as if they contract for the whole trailer full of potato chips and only fill half of it. They still prevented you from filling the rest of the trailer with something else, so they still gotta pay. But if they contract for a trailer full of potato chips and then try to make you take two trailers fulls of potatochips, that's a nonstarter. They gotta pay extra.

Unless you are traveling through the mountains or you are traveling across the country and you think the extra weight will really make a real difference... you can ask them but I wouldn't expect too much. It does go both ways as the other person said.

More importantly, I think you should call the receiver and make sure you have an appointment.

Tql does all kinds of crazy stuff. The extra weight may be the least of your problems.
