Posting this may be against the rules for soliciting business on TTR but I don't know any other group to ask, this entire site is all about business I'm hoping this is in the grey area and a discussion can be allowed. There may be other people that can benefit from this idea.
I'm from Escondido Calif 30 miles north of San Diego would a relay type of operation were I picked up a load in the southern calif area and run the trailer to the calif border and exchange for another loaded trailer and deliver that load be a service that would work for you, the exchange locations that would work for me is Yuma Az, Blyth Ca, Prim Nv and Needles ca.
I am basing this idea on 3 things, trucks that are not smog legal in California that want to be able to get the calif loads , That maybe the 10 to 12 hours saved driving plus the 8 hours of sleeper time saved by an interstate trucker has a high value with the EDL mandate and that interstate trucker could either spend more time at home on his reset or do another load before the reset.
how much time do you think this would save doing this kind of relay?
I don't run dry van currently I run dump trucks and RGN Lowbed and maybe doing an equipment exchange on a Lowbed haul may work better or maybe flatbed.
all my trucks are day cabs and i have only run regional I have not needed to go any farther but in the interest of a little diversification I'm looking into this.
Would doing this be considered a type of double brokering ?
A business idea

That's not double brokering, that's you acting as a final-mile carrier.
And if I were an O/O I would definitely be interested in your services.slow.rider Thanks this. -
I think the trouble you'll run into is liability of the freight and the trailers.
Who pays for the flat tire while you have it, or any other damages?
Who's on the hook for OSD of what you pick up or deliver?JolliRoger and slow.rider Thank this. -
I ran a load out to Desert Center for my next door neighbor last week, I had heard that the guy who owns that property ran everyone off. Ha!
there must’ve been 75 to 100 trucks out there at midnight, all the companies with locations in LA in Phoenix meeting there to switch trailers and head back.
all those people out there and not one place to get a cup of coffee or a bite to eat, imagine that.
get yourself a food truck and park it out there and watch the money roll in!
The only downside is you have to work the graveyard shift.Dino soar, RockinChair, Accidental Trucker and 4 others Thank this. -

That is handled with a freight/trailer interchange agreement. All responsibilities spelled. -

My two cents from the 3PL space, is that if I found out a carrier was running any portion of a shipment my team assigned to them using a carrier operating under a different authority I would cut ties immediately. Even in a crazy tight market like this, the amount of potential headaches around communication and liability make working with a carrier that planned to outsource a portion of the run extremely unattractive to me.

Thousands of not kali legal trucks enter and exit every day...unless dedicated/specific situation won't work...
TallJoe and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
