Your story is a very good one but the not the same for many OOIDA customers. They have some good points in that they offer mechanical breakdown and a few other coverages that look good on a certificate AND that you won't find easily in most markets. The biggest reason shippers and Brokers won't accept a Certificate from OOIDA is that they fight every claim. Beyond that their Motor Truck cargo form promises to re-pay the policy holder for any Cargo claim the Policyholder (YOU) pays. They do not promise to pay the claim. They promise to repay you after you pay...WTF is that?
If you indicate that your truck is parked in a lot with even the slightest layer of the security and OOIDA discovers that is not the case...OOIDA won't cover damages. Certificates from OOIDA take too long and if the broker even accepts their cert you are at the bottom of the list. You won't know they paid a claim until you try to leave to another Insurance Company and then you see it on your loss runs... but hey that's the same with most. If your unattended truck is stolen you are not covered. Poor packing is excluded, no pollution clean-up included, no coverage for Police or Fire Department charges. But they are lower on premium for most drivers. If they are a good driver like you they might survive those initial years and escape to a Market that actually offers coverage that Truckers need.. But I suppose if Option 1 was a 100k from Progressive and Option 2 was competitive from OOIDA I'd be signing up. However I doubt OOIDA would offer if the driving record was that poor. At $ 9,200 a year you are easily in the top 15%....Stay Safe

I agree with all that. Those were issues I had.

Find an independent agent that knows trucking and has multiple markets available AND can tell you what markets they have when you get to 2+ years. Also they should be able to give you guidance on using DataQ's to fight bogus DOT violations, tell you have fast you can grow, and ask questions to build a narrative to give to an underwriter. Problem is most of the good agents like that don't mess with new entrants.
