Here's my last trip to the NE. The two times I had to pay over three dollars, I just put in enough fuel to keep running until I could get back to cheap fuel:

Edit: the PPG (price per gallon) is pre-discount. I never bothered to calculate post. But for everyone there's a discount for, the PPG is actually even lower. WEX FleetOne.
