Look into one of the many Gas hauler companies. If its a private gas hauler then that better.

Most of the trucks were automatics, before they got rid the manuals I drove a few 2 speed axels, and some f the 10 speed low boy macks. I got my tankers, and hazmat endorsements also. I wouldn't mind being a part of the fuel or chemical industry. Most hazmat drivers Ive talked to seem to be satisfied where they are vs freight or material hauling. Networking with real inside people gives more insight of how getting started really works versus the big company adds and hype advertising goes. It took me over 13 years just to save 15k from my current job, and average trucker can make that in way less time im sure. Buying your own truck...Im not in that position, I hear often of controlling your income as owner operator, so I have to start small. If I could find some night/weekend driving local or on the road for a night or two would be cool and possibly hang on to county job. All feed back is appreciated, Im trying to get the best guidance \ advice I can get........

Look up Georgia Tank Lines, I saw an ad for them. They haul fuel, good equipment, good pay. They will train you and have 2 terminals, Doraville and Austell I think

Ellisjay2 I'm in a similar position as you. I've had my class A CDL with hazmat and tanker for over 25 years. Did the trucks you primarily drove have the splitter on the side of the stick you pull up or push down to split hi/lo range? My experience was with single axle straight trucks pulling fertilizer spreaders or nurse tanks around and also hauling feed to farmers over 25 years ago. That's what they had for transmissions.

I did work for a coop in 2018 for a couple months hauling fertilizer with tandem axle straight trucks with a 10 speed. My experience is limited so I doubt it would count for a company. I live in rural area so there's no use in looking at LTL jobs as I'm over an hour away from a city that has them. I'm hoping someone could tell me if I'd need to sign a contract as I've got the CDL I need the training.on T/T.

It was only the low boy mack that had the splitter for 10 speed, boom truck had two speed axel, and rest were automatics.

You shouldn't have a problem finding a truck driver job right now. I live over near Athens. Im 39 and in the process of changing jobs. There are more Class A job openings in our market right now than you can imagine. Just apply to what interests you. Be open and honest at the interview. Let them know that you are willing and eager to learn. Those steady years with the county will look good on an application. It shows loyalty and trust me, that matters. A lot of the drivers coming from OTR have only driven automatics too, don't let that discourage you. I say swing for the fences driver. It doesn't hurt to try.

It's a saying, swing for the fences. Basically go big, try for the best job you can find
