The actual nicotine addiction, I had beat by the end of the first week. The rest is changing your habits. Those triggers you speak of. Some were harder than others for me. Like that after dinner smoke. But there were so many others. 10 years after I quit, I would still find myself reaching for my shirt pocket every time I got that green light at a scalehouse.

I quit cold turkey March 15, 2001 @ 7:30 PM. It helps to know when your last one was. Then you can tell yourself, that was my last cigarette. It is a bit of a mind game, but it helps. Just decide, and do it.

It was kind of simple for me. I quit cold turkey from a one to two pack a day habit.
All you got to do is be the one that has to tell the doctors to turn off life support or give the "do not resuscitate" order. After doing that a few times with family that had cancer it makes it quite easy to quit.
Ordered the machines turned off for the man that raised me, walked out of the hospital and tossed my pack on the dash. I was done. Ya see, simple. -
