Hello I’m was looking at some prostars with the maxforced 300k to 400k for 16k. I know why they are cheap I know they break a lot cuz of the crazy after treatment system they got.( they got to 400k miles somehow)
if I was to get it DLTd. You guys think they will run fine. I got a nice load going 340 miles a day so the truck will avery around 2000 miles a week. What y’all think ? Could this actually work. I do have a truck but truck prices are overpriced right now who know when it get back to normal.

Think about spending the 16,000 thousand on fixing up the the truck you have now and compare what you will have to spend getting the prostar ready for the road
AModelCat Thanks this. -
I think EGR is probably more the root cause of the Maxxforce's issues. High EGR duty cycle makes more soot. Plus the coolers leaking coolant into the exhaust.

Yeah they can be had cheap but once you buy it you are stuck with it cause dealers won't take them on trade...deleted or not

Best to just save the cash.

Deleting gets rid the aftertreatment issues. The engine itself is known to be fairly stout. There are other expensive issues that may remain. Fan hubs fail, and it is expensive to repair or upgrade.
High pressure fuel pumps tend to fail, and are expensive.
Their reputation is deserved. Yet I still see them on the road every day...
Make sure you have a mechanic who is familiar with them. A dealer will not be an option for you due to the delete.bzinger Thanks this. -
I know a guy that had a 2012 prostar with a maxforce deleted a few years ago and it's been a good running truck since ...but he can't give it away and uses it for a spare now .
Salvage yard offered him 3500.00 for it last year .Flint1 and Xenergiserx Thank this. -
Xenergiserx and bzinger Thank this.
