You'd be better off with a single axle tractor and a sleeper. A 3500 won't get anymore mpg. Opens you up to a wide variety of stuff

I appreciate the advice. No sarcasm taken my friend. I posted because I need to learn what I'm getting into and this seemed as good a place as any to get started. Clearly I'm green and have to rethink my equipment to do the job right but this is something I want to do and everyone has to start somewhere. Thank you again.

Also consider the insurance for a new entrant MC/DOT # it won't be cheap. We're talking 12-15k on the very low end and as much as 25-30k-ish unless you plan on leasing on to someone

12-15k for new entrant is not even close to reality bro c'mon. I recently went through it and I'm no where near that in cost.
    Insurance- 2300 down 1100 mo.
Authority set up and permit around 1k including LLC set up.

Biggest expense is truck and trailer but you can finance, lease, or pay cash.

Lots of ppl on here will beg to differ. And btw yes you are Lol unless your terrible at math.

A lot of new entrants have been quoted over 20k. This guy has no previous experience so 12-15k is what he's gonna expect.

    Done arguing

Actually, @Brettj3876 is spot on. There's a lot of mitigating factors that will determine what you'll pay as a start up, but on avg, what he's saying is about right. BTW, his dad and I have both been driving since the late '70's, and he was brought up in the business...

My renewal quote this year was $11,315 if I pay in one shot and over $14,000 if I did payments.
    Paid it upfront.

Did Theresa able to get a reasonable number for you ? A random call I got from a insurance guy the on Wednesday about my upcoming renewal, I asked questions about newer Carriers rates. He told me the same information as taking a couple of years until rates start coming down. If I recall you are about 3 years on your numbers. Again he said cars were more and location were the most cost driving factors. Good that you have prepared to save a couple thousand by not financing.
