Feel like I’m getting burnt out. The permits, curfews, routes, escorts and all the rest. I don’t need the escorts when I’m empty, but I usually have at least one that rolls with me in case I have steering problems. The downtime is incredible. It’s not uncommon to sit for a week or more loaded because of blah blah blah. I’m salary so the sitting doesn’t effect my pay and I’m always in hotels. I don’t have much to complain about honestly. It’s getting to the point where I look at van trailers with their prepass and the ability to take any dang route you please with envy.
You guys ever experience this? What do you do to break up the boredom? I only haul 1 thing. Routes are often different as the pickup and drop do change. I just need prospective.

Sounds like you need a vacation, go see some mountains for a week or two.

Take a vacation overseas.
NavigatorWife, Coffey, Smut and 1 other person Thank this. -
Vacations are okay, but if you aren't happy when you get back from one, it doesn't help. I never liked going on vacation knowing what crap I had to return to. Remember, other trucking jobs always looks better from a distance, ALL trucking jobs are boring, unless you haul something different everyday, like I did with rail cans. I rarely delivered to the same place twice. The horrors of pulling a box around will convince you in short order, it really is the "low of the low" in trucking ( sorry, van and reefer draggers, it's true). When I had my company route job and got burnt out, the boss would put me on the dock for a couple days, you never saw someone so willing to get back in a truck. Rather than a vacation, which I feel is a band-aid on a heart attack, you have experience, nobody says you have to stay, and job market for drivers couldn't be better today. Try something else.
Stray_Dog, NavigatorWife, Rocks and 7 others Thank this. -
Take a vacation, clear your head. If all else fails, try dry bulk tankers. Guaranteed free entertainment every day.
I just got what I've always wanted. A dedicated run. And I'm actually bored with it. Same place loading and unloading, twice a day, all week long. I literally know where every pothole in the road between the two places is.
Maybe it'll get better, but a month into this and I'm bored.NavigatorWife, lester and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
