The southwest is stunning. I can’t believe nobody really mentioned it. It’s absolutely beautiful

I drove through on US 60 a few times, avoiding I40, and one time it had been raining for days before I got there and everything in Arizona and New Mexico was so green it looked like I was driving through a documenary on England or Ireland or something. I'd never even imagined that it could look like that. Nothing but green and flowers on everything as far as you could see.

Then the next time it had returned to looking like a road runner cartoon.

Where exactly did you see the greenery? Was that on the border of Arizona and NM? I40?

I haven’t been out west in over a decade. I really want to go back soon. When I did OTR it was only in the east. But I remember how beautiful it was out there. Like a whole different world.

I usually avoid I40 if I can. US60 is what I'm talking about, its mostly abandoned towns or small towns through NM and once you get to AZ there are a few vacation towns going toward Phoenix but not a lot of traffic all the way from Clovis NM to Phoenix AZ. The elevation is above 8000 ft maybe even 9000ft in AZ but I can't remember exactly.

There aren't a lot of truckstops but you can park in a lot of places just make sure to fuel up because if you can only fuel at a major truckstop then you are SOL between Clovis and Phoenix. I usually stop in Vaughn NM to eat or park at the truckstop there or in Pietown where you can just park on the side of the road in front of the restaurant there and get some breakfast and some pies in the morning.

Nothing beats it. After I got my time in, I've been sticking to primarily NM(live here), TX and CO. Plenty of pristine nothingness between the craziness of what few metro areas lie out here. The current company has been cool with me sticking to the three states. But the minute they try to make 48 state a mandatory thing, I'm definitely bouncing to stick to my area.

I'm partial to Oklahoma. From the Black Mesa in the panhandle to the Ozark mountains in the east, Broken Bow lake area and Ouachita mountains in the southeast, to the Wichita mountains in the SW, the Great Salt Plains lake in north central, to all the lakes and green country in the central part of the state and the beginnings of the Flint Hills around Pawhuska and Drummond ranch.

Plenty of huge lakes for recreation and just about any species of animal to hunt somewhere in the state. Tons of farms and ranches, peach orchards, blackberries, strawberries and watermelon festivals every summer, even have rattlesnake roundups in a few towns, most notably Okeene and Mangum.

Lots of terrain diversity and plenty to do right here.
