Get back to me when you've paid back all the fuel discounts you got from all those oil subsidies.

The scrap tire company We deal with has a bunch of 53’s that have the tandems all the way back and bolted so they can’t move. Easier to load and tip to unload at the concrete plant. Texas doesn’t care where the tandems are as long as you are not over axle weight. Even the large major starter company from Az that we use to return defects rolls them back quite a bit while in the state. 1000 used tires is about 44,000 in the van. Much better ride.

When I first started driving, I ran for a small company out of Ft Worth. Mostly Tx up as far as Kansas and over into New Mexico. Usually had 30k to 40k in the box. I noticed that most of the trailers had the tandems way back and an old hand told me that they ride way better that way. And after a while I got used to having them all the way back and made my turns accordingly.

I’m sure You remember Lane? They had tons of 57’s. They ran tandems all the way back. They would occasionally bring down tire loads from Cooper’s Texarkana plant that way. Talk about a long looking stretch.

Seems like hoods were never clipped off in parking lots back when the old hands ran tandems back. My god father ran ‘48 reefer from ‘88-‘95 and the only time he slid them was in Carlifornia. He got a new ‘53 in ‘96 and ran the tandems back if he could.

The sad thing was about in all his 50 years of coast to coast trucking the only time he was ever mugged was one time in California when he was under the trailer counting pins for a slide.
