The worst was the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. Set up a 200t crane, unloaded it, in the side of a building, turned it on its end with chain falls. Lowered it 35’ and turned it back right side up and then had to skate it about 50 yards and then set it on a concrete pad! Definitely a young mans sport. I quit operating cranes and going on rigging jobs about 10 years ago.

 

Now that sounds like that was fun! You miss it any? I think I would enjoy it. Just like I think I would enjoy the challenge of running a wrecker.

 

Sometimes I do. I ran a heavy wrecker early in my career. Problem with wrecker work is it never fails. Sit down to a hot meal or dip your toe in a shower and beeper, well it was a beeper when I ran them, goes off usually for a police call. And the problem with running cranes is sitting in the seat for 8 to 10 hours staring at the bottom of a man basket. But it had some interesting days.

 

Do a camouflage version, you could sell a million.

 

Actually almost out of TX now, got a Cat at Galveston 10'7" wide at bucket. The 379 got a motor grader. Both of us sitting near 90k

Ironically while the partner was picking up his motor grader, I spent my time awaiting Houstons curfew to end, helping a driver learn to drive one. Poor guy, first OS load ever ended up being 15'1" tall (see just cause you can put it on a stepdeck don't mean you should.) 3rd week on, I wont name the carrier.

Read your permit or look it up, but there..........

I used to train, I love helping drivers out, but sending that after a 15talll..... I cant help that think he was set up for failure. Cause while the driver does bear the responsibility of learning his craft somewhat, he just dosent know what he dosent know or even have a clue where to begin. Helped him what I could, gave him some advice, but can he even process it, IDK.

And the driver I helped out, he chose to load it that way, personally I think that aint gonna balance well, but I could be wrong, could have moved the platforms and got a couple feet more forward, prolly a little better. Anyone ever got one of those on a step????

 

Id like to get one with extra long drops, that weighs a feather.

Never tried that on a step. Guessing in the 46k weight range. I would never even try.

 

Im not an equipment hauler by any means so i dont know what im talking about , but ive only ever seen those graders on lowboy trailers/ rgn .

probably one of those companys that wants to underbid everybody on the load even when their driver doesnt have the right equipment , and by your account doesnt know how to use it. To each their own i guess....

Wonder how good it is on the trailer, having all the weight of that machine sitting on the rub rails ?
