The problems with this "logic" or lackthereof are manyfold. Covering the most obvious ones is though. most driving age kids i know cant even change a tire. Godforbid read an atlas. Additionally many of the kids getting out of school now are part of the memememenownownownow generation who are used to the ideas of participation trophys and that capitalism is evil and where economics 101 is a curse word.
Next these kids are going to get screwed blued and tattooed by these megas. They wont have the experince in the real world to understand stuff like contracts to pay for their CDLs or know why leaseing a truck is bad. A HUGE number of them will be victimized by these carriers simply because they wont have ANY real world experince. They will be fresh from the sheltered lie of high school "everything is fair" mentality. 21 is not a lot better but at least they usually have a couple years of experince being thrown off the deep end into reality to draw on. an 18 year old wont.
Some will succed sure. But i bet for every 1 that does 100 dont. And how is being shackled with 100k+ from a broken lease or 20k+ from a violated training contract any better then a student loan? It costs about the same in the end and leaves them with a wrecked life early on.
This doesnt even cover the facts such as how teens are usually very poor drivers as shown by sky high insurance rates. How many of them are raised to think being stoned is fine and are likely to hit legal trouble there. How unsuited most will be going from high school to the high stress high risk job of trucking and so on.
And sure they say they will make training requirments stricter. Sure and some mega will lobby to make the training shorter or just driver mill them out CR england style where there is no trainer just a team and hope for the best.
Allowing these children to drive what is esentially a gods #### building with wheels down the road is a disaster waiting to happen no matter how you cut it. Sure again some kids will run with it and succeed. many many MANY more are going to get the shaft and hard.JoeyJunk, Rideandrepair, TokyoJoe and 1 other person Thank this. -
Exactly.JoeyJunk, Eldiablo, God prefers Diesels and 1 other person Thank this.

I think the industry is missing out on a ton of potentially good workers. Anybody with work ethic isn't going to sit around for 3 years after high school just to become a trucker.
Really, driving isn't some kind of specialized profession. Have you folks opened your eyes lately and seen what passes for a driver these days? Even an 18 year old with half a brain couldn't do much worse than what's out on the roads now. -
Just think, the day it passes, all us old timers will instantly become three years older.
buddyd157 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I never ran into any of this issue you listed. I’m only 30 so I guess that puts me in the participation trophy generation. (We didn’t want those, btw, that was our parents generation’s idea). Been driving full time since I was 21, even helped a few guys pass their test to get there CDL at 21. They are doing just fine also.Czar_Zero, D.Tibbitt, gentleroger and 4 others Thank this.

No. Insurance will rise.
we need to deal with the piss poor cdl system that allows idiots behind the wheel of a truck first, then we can talk about lowering the interstate entry age.Cattleman84, Eldiablo and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this.
