Is this a new driver training technique?

If you’re going the speed limit or faster, I don’t see anything wrong with this, as long as you move over if you’re starting to impede traffic. That means holding hands with people in the other lanes and other trucks are waiting behind you, just like you don’t hog the middle lane going up a mountain at 13 and a half miles an hour because you’re 147000 lbs.

 

My trainer always told me to stay in the center lane. I was almost never comfortable with it.

 

I'm limited to 65 as a gas hauler.
I keep in the right lane most of the time, middle lane when I'm empty and can roll up hills faster, bust mostly right lane, as I'm slower than most.
I endeavor to be a courteous driver, but sometimes, someone able to fly has to pass me on the right, as they've got the momentum, and I'm not gonna jam them up needlessly.
I'll hold position until they're clear, then slide back over safely.
It's not a perfect method, but it works fairly well.
We're all out there together, and certainly road manners helps us all get where we're going in the most efficient means possible.
That said, the worst section I've found is the 24/59 split...59 cuts off left, and runs 2 lanes until right before the split...
Only safe way to catch it is left lane a mile before the split, which becomes the center lane, and then right lane of 59 ramp.
If anyone has better ideas, I'm all ears for sure.

 

I drive through Detroit on a daily basis. I have tried driving right lane only but it was terrible, I had to brake on nearly every merge point. I just sit in the middle all the way through until I get outside of the city a bit before I move back over to the right lane. It's not always practical to sit in the right lane in major cities. Middle is usually the safest.

But during the dead times of the night I see trucks in the 3rd lane near the 4th lane (passing lane) and the other two lanes are empty. The stretch between Cincinnati and Dayton on I-75 is the perfect example of this.

 

If I'm driving the speed limit, I'll be staying in the middle lane unless it says for trucks to use the right lane only. Because other drivers speed, I am often penalized by moving over for them and getting stuck behind slower traffic and merging. I'm not opposed to slower traffic keeping right, but the left lane should be redesigned for cruising at the speed limit, not for passing. People who break the law should not be dictating the actions of people who obey it.

 

Yep. I use lane 3 all day long. At the speed limit.

Everyone passes me. And trucks use the left no truck lane. With sometimes 2 wide open lanes on the right.

 

Michigan too.

They still enforce it and there are signs on almost every freeway that trucks have to stay in the right two lanes.

Nothing more frustrating than to have some idiot truck whip out in the left lane because he isn’t paying attention to traffic and then can’t pass anyone.

 

I was taught by my trainer to take the middle lane because it’s “the lane of least resistance”

 

I usually just stay in the right lane though because I’m governd at 65 and I get tired of being passed on the right
