Sure. That's why we see a depletion of iPhones, android's, tablets, and desktops because they were hit by the pandemic and can't get enough microchips.

The chip shortage has been going on a whole lot longer than that. Sounds like your "information" sources are being very selective with their information.

Plus there was also a big upswing in demand for devices as people had more free time and remote video business meetings.

Has anyone heard of this shortage?

You can probably do better than SFI. Check out Arrow and Lone Mountain for starters. As far as waiting until the market cools, I'm not firmly in that camp. If your income would be driven by market rates, then whatever extra you pay for equipment will likely be offset in just a few months of high freight rates. You might well lose more by waiting than by paying a little extra now.

Im with SFI currently. Im 3 months from the end of the first lease on a brand new used (20k mi at signing) kenworth. Stay away from SFI, I'm turning in the truck at the end the lease and walking away to a dealership for the next one.

It's been outrageously messy working with them. I did the first 16mo running the Schneider load board, saw a lot more money than I'd ever seen in my life but then noticed they were canceling loads (accusing the customer of it) and removing loads I'd preassigned because "i didn't do a proper trip plan and couldn't make ontime pickup or delivery" heck i trip plan 50mph so a 500mi trip is 10 hrs..but my truck is unlocked so i can do 80 if i wanted to so that trip is closer to 7hrs if i can keep the doors closed. So "proper trip plan" is a crock and an excuse for Schneider to pull the load, assign it to a company driver and bank the profit themselves. Sure it sounds like hyperbole but i stewed on that possibility for months, didn't just shoot from the hip, i watched the percentages. Math y'all.

So halfway through the lease i got hazmat and twic and tanker and $1400 to move to Landstar, been freaking better off since.
I saw, even in the pandemic, a 30% bump in gross weekly pay, not to forget the enormous (in comparison) fuel discounts

I heard that from a couple other drivers some even said they would get to their 01 just to find out a company driver took their load. Plus the Bs of hunting down empties seems like a PITA. Which is why I planned to lease on to F2F no chance of Schneider trying to screw me and my paychecks everything I do is 100% on me and what I pick off the DAT board.

I checked out Lone Mountain as they were my 2nd choice if SFI didn’t work out but they’re in the same boat they only have a brand new KW available for $20k down with no idea when they’ll get used trucks back in stock

If he just ordered then a month ago it’s going to be a while. Most manufacturers are out into 2022 for new trucks.

Well I have a truck 5 trucks became available this morning 3 were over 300k+ miles the 2 trucks left 1 had 108k miles and the other only had 80k miles. Of course I chose the 80k mile truck she’s a 2021 Freightliner basically new without the new price tag. I fly to NC on the 20th to pick her up fill out paperwork and do orientation.
