I know you need a dial wrench instead of a click wrench, but can you use a beam wrench instead? Because I have a little 1/4" beam wrench, and I don't want to drop coin on a dial wrench if I don't need to. Thanks.

This step is a very critical point in the adjustment. What ever method you choose I would make sure its calibrated.
black_dog106 and God prefers Diesels Thank this. -
I bought that beam wrench a few years back, but I only used it once. Been sitting in my toolbox ever since. What about running the overhead, and just skipping the injectors? In your experience, do they usually need much adjustment?

I don't see why you can't use a beam wrench. Is there a place that can check the calibration?
The Snap-On trucks usually have a calibration tester.God prefers Diesels Thanks this. -
While you are in there it might be a good idea to install a tune up kit for the engine brake.

I would say you should be Ok. Consistency is the key and not to over torque. Is the in- lbs scale large enough to be precise?
Maybe buy one of those cheap digital torque adapters to check it?God prefers Diesels Thanks this. -
Nevermind, it has nowhere near the resolution I need. It's a flippin' 3/8 wrench. Not sure why I had it in my head it was 1/4. I guess the whole question is moot at this point. Thanks, though.Nostalgic Thanks this.

Don’t know if you have done the overhead yet since this post was a few months old but a beam torque wrench works.Just did mine a few weeks ago.Don’t know if you know about Cummins Quickserve which is free and literally shows you how to do everything including a rebuild on the engine. Also if you ever need Insite I have it.
God prefers Diesels Thanks this. -
Oh, I hadn't used my beam wrench in so long, I forgot it was 3/8. I just ended up setting valve lash and called it good. Boy did it need it.
What do you need for Insite? Just like a 6-pin to USB or something?
