I dont disagree, I was just saying for those who may want to pursue a career as a driver will have to go through the BS in most cases to get that golden year under their belt unless you know someone that can put you in a truck as a newbie.

I had a friend that worked for Werner right out of school. He was with a trainer and another trainer was overheard saying ok now we get to pick them apart, find fault with everything they do so they will quit. My friend spoke up and asked well why would we do that.... the reply... the GOVT pays us for each new recruit we take on, if we get the new ones to quit that gives us more trucks for new recruits and a bouns! They do it intentionally to get more money from the govt!
david07003 Thanks this. -
if you get shafted by one and go to another after a few months they usually will treat you a lot better than a total newbie because it is hard for them to get experienced drivers sometimes.

All I have to say is good luck with that golden year thing doing anything golden for you. Maybe they could make a show called "The Golden Years", or has that been done already?

I had a friend that worked for Joe's Trucking. He heard the boss talking about another load of gold going to Mr Becks house. He said that if the driver makes a big deal of meeting Mr Beck, he will give them 3 bars of gold! This is why so many people listen to Mr Beck, they think they will be given bars or gold. I think I want to work for Joe's Trucking!wellgolf Thanks this.

Thats not my rule, thats any job you want just about driving, all require atleast one year recent OTR experience. So your saying, after a year or 2 even, you wont get a better paying job with a better company??
-
He's saying turnover at better companies isn't half as high as at bottom feeder companies . Simply put - you have medium carriers with 1,000 trucks and 50% turnover . 500 openings . Megacarriers with 100% turnover and 10,000 trucks . 10,000 drivers think they can move up but the jobs aren't there .Starchdoggy and dragonmatrix Thank this.

Gotcha, ok makes sense......

Some companies can the higher paid help, or coerse them to quit. Go work in retail right now! That is why I went to school. I was making too much by the hour. I was in the top in sales at the company I was at. They replaced me with someone that made $4 less an hour. They are going to hope that person does as good as I did. If not get another newbie.
I can go to work for a company that will run me 3700+ miles a week (illegally of course!) make $55K+ a year or do it legal.
Rumor has it that over 60% of a local OTR outfit won't meet the new specs.
I checked a BMI website and at 5'11" and 210 I am considered "obese!"
-
Since "obese" is an arbitrarily defined state, don't be surprised. Next week, they'll probably decide that anybody with more than 2% body fat is obese.
