"well balanced diet"
That's the rub. How many of us do that, really? I try, and I am sure that many of us do, but I know am not always successful.
Compound that with being on the road, and eating properly becomes more of a challenge from what I have learned here.
Also, ask a primary physician how much he or she was taught about nutrition, the answer may surprise you.
Here is a clue: not much.rwings Thanks this. -
The daily vitamin has been debated many times. I figure if I take one every-other day I can appease both sides of the argument.
Weatherbug Thanks this. -
well, it certainly can't hurt. Anything your body doesn't need it eliminates anyway.
I live in fear that despite my best efforts, my main squeeze will live on ramen noodles when he is on the road, simply because they are fast. Considering that they consist of mostly fat and salt, he would get more food value if he ate the package. -
Overdoing "fat soluble" vitamins can be scary, if not deadly!
-
True enough, vitamins a, d, e and k in massive amounts have side effects and can indeed be deadly.
But the key word here is "massive amounts", and let's face it - too much of anything isn't good for you.
the amount you are likely to get in an ordinary daily multivitamin are not likely to give you any problems, but like anything else, educate yourself and read the label.JustSonny Thanks this. -
All of you have good points towards the vitamin issue. My wife is a nurse and is now taking a nutrition class for her Bat.degree. Very few truckers eat a so called balanced meal and for that reason alone we need to take these supplements. If we only take a baby asprin and a cholestral aid/or one-a-day, we can reduce the chances of a heart attack or stroke by 50%. Hey, it's cheap medicine and worth the effort. She also makes me take fresh fruits as a snack instead of junk food and candy. The vitamins work and so do you.........................SMILE.....Rob.
Weatherbug and Baack Thank this. -
I drink a 8oz can of low sodium V8 juice every day, seems to work OK. Get 48 packs at Costco for cheap.

A deficiency in Vitamin B12 can kick you in the butt! Get 'em all but make sure you're stocked up on B12. Google it - you'll see what I mean!
