So much for showing up to court for a speeding ticket and having it thrown out if the officer doesn't appear at the court that day.
-
Wait, how the hell could they use a private firm to run any kind of official court?
-
Constitution?...Schmonstitution!
Due Process?...Schmue Process!
A SOCIALIST state doesnt allow citizens to have rights! Pay your fine and SHUT UP!!!
IS THIS WHAT OUR FOREFATHERS ENVISIONED FOR THIS COUNTRY???
Looks like The Great Experiment in democracy has failed!
Nikita Kruschev (spelling?) was right! Our country IS being destroyed from within! -
What happened to the right to face your accuser? What a bunch of ########## morons!

Nobody is being denied any rights. You can go to court, nobody said you couldn't. You can face your accuser still. You can still get off if the cop doesn't show up. But if your were speeding then you SHOULD be fined. It is a deterent you choose to ignore and your own peril. It is amazing the number of jerk offs that show up at court with some BS arguement on why they didn't break the law or even better why they should be allowed to break it. All the added fine does is make you really think about whether you have a real beef to fight. Sheesh how many of you folks argue for doing away with frivolous lawsuits? That is all this is.

While I do agree with you, to what extent do we allow the government to "do whatever the hell they want and get away with it"? It's more of a principle to me.
It's time these judges and police officers stop thinking they are above the law and start abiding by it themselves. Or maybe you are ok with them breaking it and excessively punishing an average citizen for trying to prove their innocence. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? God knows there are no crooked judges and cops right?

I understand what your saying about tying up the system with BS but what these judges are trying to do is no different, gimme a break!

Well Indianapolis has a lot of issues since the last mayor left office....dang that sounded funny.
This is Indiana and if you get a speeding ticket in Indiana you must be traveling the speed of light.
Don't know what they're logic is and I've been to traffic court you'd be surprise what kind of excuses people give for even parking in a fire lane.
Don't know but I think if you're coming to court to fight something you are more than likely bringing a lawyer so what exactly is the beef? The $2500 plus lawyers fees because you were in the wrong? Or just the lawyer fees to keep 2 pts off your license. If you've never been to traffic court you need to go just once....I went many moons ago with a State Trooper I know.....that was a scary place.
Maybe we should be fair and take another look at another news source.....unpaid tickets....different spin.

The article had no examples of a judge or cop breaking the law except maybe the guy going to court for no reason. Somehow I imagine there was more to it than someone just wanting to sit quitely and watch. That is just a hunch however so I will concede that he was wronged. The Asian going eight over? He was mad that the judge sided with the cop? The guy with the pace maker? Is there an exemption in the law for that? Is there a way of proving to the cop on a roadside that you have a pacemaker?
There was just a story on this forum not to long ago about a guy in GA fighting and losing then sucessfully appealing a fine due to vague language in a traffic law. I think it was about right turns to the right lane. The point being he lost in traffic court then appealed. If you are right then you will win and if you have a sure win then a lawyer will take it because lets face it...they are attention ######.

My main point being are we not allowed to try and prove our innocence anymore? According to this no, without HUGE penalty. Basically what it's saying is if you get a ticket, no matter what it's for if it's minor, that you no longer have the right to defend yourself against those charges because if you go to court and lose your case you will then be hit with an astronomical fine of up to $2500 for simply pleading your case in the courtroom which is a bunch of bullshizz.
Here is an actual example that just happened to one of our drivers the other day. He was pulled over on a flat stretch of road and ticketed for 68 mph in a 65 zone. His truck is governed at 60 mph and has been for the last 2 years. Our on board computer even showed the fastest his truck had been since he logged on to it at the beginning of his trip was 64 and whatever the tenths were. He tried to show this to the cop and was told "I don't care what that thing says, if you don't like it go to court and fight it, I'm not gonna stand here on the side of the road and debate it with you".
Now I understand that cops get every excuse in the book on a daily bases, but, if this driver goes to court with this evidence and the judge has the same bad attitude the cop did and takes the cops stance on the matter then what? He should have to pay a HUGE fine for something that he didn't even do in the first place?
Sounds like a royal ****ing to me!
