Seriously, and I have been in this business since the early 60s, I would rather live on welfare than drive for somebody like Swift. Now, this is my own personal opinion, but I have seen and heard too many horror stories about all the mega-truckload carriers to even consider becoming a "slave".

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

let me give you my opinion of SWIFT, about 2 yrs ago I was looking at changing companies and going OTR for awhile. I interviewed with and roadtested with SWIFT, I was told by the guy that did my roadtest that I was "overqualified and overskilled" to drive for them. 2ndly, talk to the companies that use SWIFT as their dedicated carrier, specifically the shipping/receiving dept's and the security guards. I'll use Lowe's as an example, the guards at the Lowe's DC in Cheyenne just shake their heads in amazment at how bad of drivers Swift hires. Hell, one of the guards just cowers after a Swift driver tried to kill him by pinning him between two trucks, after being told 4 times not to move or he would hit someone.

the swift terminal is in back of the ffe terminal in lancaster and next to the dart terminal

bottom feeder megacarriers .
now this is a concept i never thought of but so true
My hat off to rick G who has said the truth -
SWIFT = Swing Wide! It's a Freakin' Trailer
= Sorry! We're Insured For That
= Sitting, Waiting In a Freakin' Terminal -
I've read most of the abuse here about SWIFT and I'm one of those people that will take it all in and file it for later use. But I'm also going into it with an open mind. I didn't go to SWIFT's driving school, and the one that got all the driver's licenses revoked was in TN anyway.
I am absolutley new at driving a semi OTR, but I have several years experience in the military driving 2.5 and 5 tons with bed loads and towed loads. Yes, I know it ain't the same thing, but it does give me the experience to know that you have to pay attention and that it's a big freakin' truck, so it doesn't drive like my pick up.
My issues were way back in '82, so it really isn't that big of deal (Accessory after the fact, which means I didn't tell the cops something went on) and it didn't keep my from staying in the military for 22 years and keeping a security clearance.
As far as collecting welfare, well I don't know your family history, and it really is none of my business but I was raised by a father (youngest of 11 kids) whose family lost the farm during the depression in OK (the dust bowl, just like in "Grapes of Wrath") and they were so poor all they had to eat sometimes were lard sandwiches. I was raised that working was better than welfare. So I'll go to work, get miles, and look for a better job later. -
Good luck, keep us informed on how it works out.
