no problem, they are apparently trying to find freight to calif to do some home time.My dm and the afterhours dm almost always get back to me(it's not instant) usually have to wait 10-20min.The couple of times it took longer was after hours and they wern't paying attention/or ignoring me(didn't think I needed a response back)usually a 2nd request got a response asap. The only time i didn't get a response(3rd request)i found out the computers were down.

So all things considered, are you glad that you choose Swift over the other companies out there?
To me this is almost like the Price Is Right, There are several doors to choose from, but you only have an idea of what is behind the door. I start school Monday and then I am going to have to commit. All of the companies have horror stories, but I have spoke with drivers from them that are happy. So I think it has to do with how you accept the things that come your way. You can make mountains out of mole hills.
I am generally a glass is always half full type of guy.
Good luck to all of you!
God Bless! -
I didn't choose swift, they choose me.Applied to schnieder,cr england and werner.Swift was the only one to consistently get back to me. I didn't do the research that you and tbonespapa are doing. I was in a bad place in life and needed a job(divorce, lost house, lost my business, unemployment running out)so it was like a real blessing to have swift reach out to me like that(they don't know that, who would I say that too!) I heard all the horror stories about all the big companies,so swift didn't seem out of line with the others. But it is a far different life than I had led up to that point, takes a while to adjust but really suits my personality.good luck, the academy only gets your prepared for your cdl.If you get a good mentor that will help you adjust to the lifestyle.
TbonesPapa Thanks this. -
If I may offer up some advice. I drove for Swift for about a year and had to quit due to a family death that needed lots of attention. fr8monkey is correct, if you go into this with the right attitude you wont have to much of a problem. If you treat your DM with respect then they will do the same. As for the waiting hours for a reply, sometimes that does happen. But you have to remember when that happens that your only one of 40+ drivers that they have to work with. So be patient with them they will get back to you. And if its something that needs to be dealt with right that moment then you try calling them someone will answer the phone. I had my problems but you will always have something that doesnt work out right no matter where you work. I am always avail as well so feel free to ask away. I wish you luck.

I'm surprised to read you had slow freight problems in December, fr8monkey. It was certainly a busy month for me, almost too busy. I'm sitting now with no load and am actually quite glad to have nothing to do for a while. I guess maybe it was location? I haven't been to Texas recently, they've been keeping me in the east.
Did you get your layover pay straightened out? What was their excuse for not giving it to you? -
They actually paid me 3 days, not quite exactly 24 hours for the other 2 days.I was real busy over christmas and newyear holiday.I don't know why I hit the slows in texas but Lancaster is slow everytime I am there. They also usually make you do a small local delivery before they move you out.Laredo is usually real busy, but that terminal is a nightmare with all the trl inspections for the border crossing.I have been in the south this whole week, and they sure kept me moving on a lot of little stuff.
