Put your fifth wheel in the middle position (or closer to the cab) and leave it there - never move it again! Your steers should be near 11800 (when your heavy), then NEVER move it again. You might have to play with your trailer tandems, or keep your fuel at 1/2 full, but you should never have to mess around with your fifth wheel. Hope that helps ya. I run the same freight you do.

So, are you counting work experience obtained before you got your CDL class A at age 21? Will you just be going to orientation and skip the OTR trainer part? I finally got through to the recruiter today and was told at present they have a lack of trainers in the southwest.

Congratulations and best wishes on getting your slot with GTI.

Got it when i was 18, almost 12 years ago. And no, I WONT be going with a trainer. Good luck to you as well, I'm hoping things will return to normal as soon as construction and other trades pick up.

Yeah I've now heard that most with apu's already won't ge gettin new trucks and really don't want one.I don't blame them cause the new truck is something like 10000 lbs heavier and still gutless.Lately everyone you talk to has their own opinion on who gets a new truck..but everyone does agree that they have quite a few problems with the new trucks. I seem to get all the miles they can give me..and then some. With my time off scheduled they still try to get me to take a load that wouldn't get me home...I usually get between 2200 to 2800/week....But, that depends on where my trips end, meaning that we have to send in paperwork by saturday by midnite and sometimes i have trips that extend over to monday or at least past sat nite..if i start a 1500 mile trip on thursday but doesn't deliver till mon...it goes on the next pay period..so 1 week might be 1900 miles and the next would be 3000..I am on the US General fleet and pretty much go everywhere on the west coast and even as far as Memphis...hope this helps you guys out.

How much time do you spend on the west coast compared to going south or east? What is GTI's chaining policy?

I am on the us fleet and out of green bay, and have yet to see 3000 miles for a week. not one driver out of green bay that i have run into thats on us fleet is getting them kind of miles, we are lucky to see 2000, thatsw a good week, its more like 1500 to 1700. all im going to say is things at gti are not as rosey as your hearing, not to mention they have driver recruiters that basically get paied a little extra to blow smoke at ya. I have been here for a yr and a half and have seen and watched this company go down hill fast since january. have not met 1 driver yet out of indy or grn bay that is happy. there are a lot of drivers out of those two terminals very angry. the only drivers getting what they want or away with stuff or miles, are former schnider drivers that have hired on. both those terminals are staffed with former schnider employees and one original gordon employee. this company started out good, but went to hell fast. sad when seift drivers get treated better then we do by their boss's. said my peace. and for you that are even thinking it, NO, i don't turn down loads and NO im not late either. O, and something we have noticed this winter already, you no longer decide when its safe to move or not, you will move, you will chain up, if you don't, clean your trk out. and be ready for your DAC to get screwed and bad refrence from them. sure wish i saw this all coming, would have never came aboard. later

truck speed, there's a joke. well it depends. If your US Fleet, 62-63 mph, TC fleet 63mph, if your west coast, 58-61mph, and you will watch everyone pass you, on the flats and hills, detroit 60 series, 515hp cut to 375hp with pos meritor 10 spds but all the new trucks coming next year, are auto shift, the 204 that just came in are not 2010's they are 2009's. actually the last 4 are 2010. 200 are cummings, the other four that are 2010, 2 are cummings and 2 are detroit. they are test trucks to see which gets better fuel milage under the new 2010 regs.
