I’d avoid any emission truck
unless you absolutely must run California , get a pre emisson truck .Jarhed1964, misterG, Wheeeeelsss and 1 other person Thank this. -
That's assuming you'll run under your own authority and not Leased On under another's authority ie Werner, Schneider, Landstar.
Most of them have a "no older than" requirement for the truck to run ELD successfully.
Definitely go no emissions if you've got your own authority though.
My first assumption based on the carrier's home state is that you'll find a more rusted truck, drivers don't pay to wash the salt even if a minority of carrier's do. But they could be based in NY and run all their trucks throughout the Midwest and South but i very rarely go NorthEast and the few times i have i see gypsum looking haggard. But someone with more in depth or even personal experience working for gypsum may find your post @WheeeeelsssJarhed1964, Wheeeeelsss, truckdriver31 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Might not always give full info. For example if the truck was rolled over and slapped back together in-house, the only indication might be a few wierd citations all on the same day for oddball stuff like parking on the shoulder without safety devices deployed.Jarhed1964, Wheeeeelsss and truckdriver31 Thank this.

Check if it has or had an APU. If not, then it was idled a lot, and idling is a killer for emissions systems. Might still be OK but you'd want to pretty much immediately bake the DPFs and add an APU. Figure like 12 grand for both.Jarhed1964, Wheeeeelsss and truckdriver31 Thank this.

There's lots of pre-emissions trucks can still run ELD. They can be found back to at least 1996. And they're all welcome at Landstar as long as they pass inspection. Those other companies might be different.Jarhed1964, Bean Jr., Wheeeeelsss and 1 other person Thank this.
