X-15 Cummins thread

    I can’t really complain about the one I drive. It’s about to turn 200K and no problems yet.

    Now I CAN complain about the automatic boat anchor transmission and rear end gearing that has you at a max of 1150 rpm in top gear.

    then dont run it in top gear lol mine runs at 1450 in top gear

    My X15 is working really good so far, 18 over with 370 gears. It works a lot like the N-14. My rpm's run in the sweet spot about 1750 at 75 mph.
    Also, the fuel consumption is good, In my line of work I'm hauling payloads of 45 ton. This is a 605 hp engine, so it is strong.
    Also, the rpm will run over 2300 rpm, only had it up there a few times but it will go there. I've run the engine high in the rpm's since day one.
    I have been told by my Cummins mechanic that the 605 block was designed after the N-14 block, Not sure if this is true or not.
    All I know? She has to spin a lot of times before the last payment is made.
    Was at a truck show a cpl yrs ago, run into one of the Cummins rep;s. After some #### chat He looked me straight in the eye, said to me, How high you running your rpm's? I locked up for a second, I knew He already knew the answer, electronics and all. I swallowed, told Him I had it over 23 a few times. He said PERFECT, don't be afraid to open it up. He has great confidence, like that about the Man.

    I don’t when I can avoid it. Only on the rare occasions I see a 65 mph posted speed do I run top gear. Otherwise the manual mode gets locked in at 11th so I can cruise at 1300 instead of a 1000 on a 55 mph posted, which I can tell the truck seems to like better.

    Thankfully my truck is of the age where that’s possible, but now all the new ones we’re getting have a speed limiter setting in 10th and 11th gear that doesn’t allow revving over 1150 with the cruise on.

    #### thats stupid ive got one of the older trucks at my company with a 10auto with full manual control news have the 12 speed with manual mode locked out

    you got auto transmission they setup for fuel saving these engines are good for manuals

    After reading this makes me happy I stayed with Detroit on my new Western star I ordered instead of Cummins. Had 2 isx before about broke me. Bring back the N14.

    Cummins had a problems with internationals most of the problems. 2020 and 2021 emissions are good. International trucks most of them came comes with economy EX rating that truck had a most of the time but new emissions are good on that. Some time people spec the trucks wrong way. That put them into tight shoes. Motors are no more build like old skol engines. They are setting up with lower RPM.
