Getting hired is the easy part... getting hired by a good outfit in that first year of exp is a crapshoot. Some do well some don’t however you can make it a year 90 percent of the industry opens its arms. 2 years 99%.. 3years you can do whatever you want

Get the CDL, Don’t smash into anything while driving a truck for a company, don’t do drugs, don’t drink on the job, while you can stand up for yourself against the dispatchers who will try to play you, don’t take it too far, continue to pass your physical and you’ll have a job for as long as you want. It’s about a secure as they come. Excluding the factors above of course

Thanks for your responses everyone! Great feedback and I greatly appreciate it.
So I guess it's safe to say I should get my CDL license from a school so I don't have to sign a contract with a trucking company that will train me?

I'm not sure if I should start a new thread or just ask here. I'll play it safe and ask here.

About sleeping habit; Must a truck driver be available to work at all hours of the morning, afternoon or evening. Obviously truck drivers need sleep! My worry is I am an early sleeper. By the time 8:30PM comes around I'm exhausted and am in bed. I usually go to sleep between 9:00PM to 9:30PM. However, I wake up very early, an average is around 4:30PM.
I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine.

Would my sleeping habits along with my sleep apnea be an issue as a trucker?

If you can do it that way, I would recommend it. But even schools may have some trucking companies that come in a try to sign you up. Do a lot of research on companies you may be interested in when you get your CDL. Narrow it down and start calling them as soon as you start school.

Thousands of truckers have CPAP machines and use them in the truck.
Ask any company you want to work for if the company trucks are compatible for CPAP machine, such as APU, Invertor, Cigarette lighter socket, etc.

With your sleep routine, better look at dry van, flatbed, tankers.
Refrigerated trucking has lots of night driving.
